Default football picks - what does PUSH mean?

I picked Houston to win the game, but I didn't get a point for my pick, and in the results are it says Push, Hou 24, SF 21

What does Push mean? The point spread was 3

I assume it means since they didn't win by more than 3 I don't get a point for my pick, is that correct?

Thats kinda my guess, its not a win, but not a loss, so nobody wins and points wont be issued for that game.

Well if the house wins on a PUSH it's as good as a loss. I'm pretty sure that's the way it works...

WRONG!!!! It means it was a tie and nothing else. Nobody gets any money or correct pick for it. Bookies only get money when you lose not when you tie.

Well that's not usually how it works, my friend. Typically the HOUSE wins on a push...

...that's sportsbetting 101...

Sports betting 201

Push
Definition: A tie against the spread. On straight bets the result is "no action." All monies are returned as if the bet had never been made. On parlay cards typically the number of teams in the parlay is lowered by one to account for the push.

In the event of a push, the game is considered no action, and no money is won or lost.

thanks guys. I'm 9 for 11 this week so far. I pick MN over the Steelers, so I lose that one, and with the Push are my only two I didn't get. Helps make up for my 3 correct picks last week.

No dude, you were the only one. Juice is not paying as if you lost.

I think it also depends on if you also have the option of betting a push because while I do not do sports book stuff I know on some casino table games you have the option of betting push and if you do not bet on push and it is a push you lose.

The only place that I know of that considers a tie a straight up loss is on football pools. You know, those glorious white pieces of paper with all the weeks upcoming college and pro games listed for your convenience that magically appear on job sites across the country come Monday morning.

You never pay juice on a PUSH - ever, not in any way shape or form - unless you are making Teaser or Parlay bets, in which case, having a PUSH in there makes it a loss in some cases.

On a straight up bet, a PUSH is never a loss [or a win]

Don't say never when you really don't know it to be fact. Back when I bet, the one guy I used the most took juice on a push from a straight bet (no tease or parlay) I didn't mind because A.) it rarely happened and B.) he also had 3 team 10 point teasers that had the same juice as 2 team 6 or 7 point teasers and I loved the 10 point Ts. Some books wouldn't even offer the 10 pointers. There wasn't any on-line betting so you had to ask around.

Totally different these days. Just found out Saturday there are now 4 team 13.5 point T's as well thanks to the wonders of on-line betting. They probably had those in Vegas forever but not in Philly.

When I say never - I am talking about with an actual gambling site, or in Vegas, not just any random person who decides he is going to take bets - obviously they can make up whatever silly rules they want to

Then I guess the word "never" really doesn't apply.

I had a 9 team teaser yesterday and one game was a push and I won the other 8.

So my payout got lowered to the 8 team teaser rate of 15/1.

Got $80 back for my $5 bet

My winning wager was
Indy -9
Indy/StL Under 51
GB -3
GB GB/Cle Under 47 1/2
SD Pick
SD/KC Under 50
Minn +12
Minn/Pitt Under 51 1/2

Woot
