Exactly. Pull their cards from the product, put in Rewards points. Put Sam and Boyd stuff on the rewards site. If you want them, redeem your points for them. Ah, but this is National Treasures, well worth the price tag no matter what's in it.

If I'm not mistaken, Slaton was a stud in college and Exquisite is a college product! Not as bad in my opinion!

I think less for homosexuals per se and more for historians. A lot of non-blacks collect Jackie Robinson, Willie O'Rhee, and Earl Lloyd cards because of the color barriers they broke in MLB, NHL and NBA respectively.

I think Michael Sam is somewhat a remarkable footnote within the NFL for being the 1st openly homosexual to be drafted, albeit not a great player, he's symbolic historically to some.

To me, however being "the 1st" isn't as remarkable as being "the best" and that's why Jackie Robinson is so valued for Baseball, yet Willie O'Rhee and Earl Lloyd aren't overwhelmingly valuable in Hockey or Basketball, yet still retain values over commons due to their contributions to the history books.

So, I think Michael Sam is in that same realm of being better than a common, and possibly collected for maybe the wrong reasons, meaning not for his athletic contribution nor professional performance or career stats, but what he's done for or within the game itself and how he's written into the history books.

What blows my mind about these is the fact that Panini is producing these player worn cards of a guy that switched team mid season. That means that the jersey in the card probably has no association with Sam, as it seem useless to me to call the guy in just to try on a few jerseys.

Why is he even the main subject of a thread? Just complain about the bad rookies in the product...period.

Just looking through the small sample of what has ended on eBay and it appears that Michael Sam's stuff is doing about what some of the other rookie cards are doing. If anything, his cards are ending for a bit more than some of the other patch/sticker auto rookie cards out there. You could do a lot worse than getting a Michael Sam card in your pack. Also, he has been in most every other product this year so it should be no surprise that he is in this one as well. He probably has more collectors out there than Keith Wenning or Lorenzo Taliaferro. If you are more upset about getting a card of a player who never played in a real NFL game, like others have said, that happens every year so once again, this should be no shock to anyone.

It is a first in a major sport which is a big thing no matter how it turns out. Similar to Manon Rheaume in the early 90's where she was the first female to play in n NHL game. It was preseason and she never played an NHL during the regular season but to this day nearly 25 years later her cards are still sought after
Thanks. So like I said he in the product because he is gay.

Comparing him to people of Race or Sex is stupid.

Manon is hardly sought after. Last auto sold for $3.75.

247 Isaiah Burse - Denver Broncos
219 Albert Wilson - Kansas City Chiefs
229 Glenn Winston - Cleveland Browns
206 Rashad Ross - Washington Redskins

These guys are all on the NT checklist.

Without even looking I can gaurantee that Sam sells for more than all of these guys, probably by a good margin.

No reason to let someone else's sexual preferences get you all hot and bothered.

Imagine hitting a Manziel card with a Patriots patch.
I know it will happen one day.

There was also that one player in 2012 who got a card. I believe he was paralyzed or something

Doing this would be a REALLY poor business decision for Panini. You have to include plenty of late round or undrafted rookies in the product to make it a money maker. They have the stickers and in Sam's case jerseys so they have to use them or lose money. It sucks for collectors but Panini is a business.

And yet another thread that is a perfect example of why a bunch of straight guys saying "Sam coming out wasn't a big deal. Straight guys don't need to announce it" is absolute crap.

Bravo Blowout.

Can the board handle me and Migraine coming out together and making an announcement?

I'm sure I'm not the only one, but these guys having cards in products is why I only bought 3 boxes of 2014 products. From a business stand point, it would be smart to use their stickers in a lower end product. Why annoy customers with Michael Sam autos in a high-end product when we all know he will probably never play or even get signed again. Panini should just eat the cost of the autos. That or have an end of the year, low-end release and put them in as extra hits. As for the jerseys, they are all event-worn. Let some 2015 rookie wear it.
