The Walton is from the 1996 Topps rookie reprint auto set. I used to own the complete set.

Any idea on how hard those are to hit? Are they case hits/box hits/etc.??

The Kareem looks like it's Scoreboard stuff. The sig looks good but I'd still stay away if you're looking to purchase a Kareem auto.

Pretty sure the autos were 1 per box. They're not worth a ton, which is a shame. I think it's easily one of the best HoF autograph sets made. Chase card is Mikan; none of the others are particularly expensive.

Kareem is indeed a Scoreboard buyback, to my knowledge.

Yes, 1996 Topps RC Reprint Autos is the correct answer for the Walton. I have all the cards in that set minus the Mikan. It is a 10 card set and the cards are awesome looking. It is an all HOF checklist with: Mikan (48 Bowman), Sam Jones (1969 Topps), Earl Monroe (1969 Topps), Willis Reed (1969 Topps), , Elvin Hayes (1969 Topps), Walt Frazier (1969 Topps), Rick Barry (1971 Topps), Nate Archibald (1971 Topps), George Gervin (1974 Topps) and Bill Walton (1974 Topps). They are all on card autos and the sigs usually look full and bold in crisp blue ink. I don't know if they were distributed in wax boxes. I don't think they were. I believe they were distributed in the factory sets for base 1996 Topps. One auto per factory set. This is one of the underrated, undervalued sets in my opinion. If you are patient you can pretty easily get a lot of the non-Mikan autos for $10-15 delivered.

If the link works, this is what the factory sets look like:

The Topps Stars autos were one per box, but they were only in special boxes... I think from Sam's club if I remember right. The vast majority of these boxes didn't have any chance of getting autographs, if I remember right. One of the true undervalued set in my opinion. Ten guys. All NBA's greatest 50... and all but Mikan rarely sell for more than $25.

And on the Kareem, I've seen several of those through the years, but I don't know where they came from. Score Board makes sense.

I feel like the Kareem was one of those sealed in a holder that fit into a base with a plaque on it. I recall Topps factory sets that look like a gold brick are the ones with these autos

This is correct. They were a box topper in boxes of Topps Stars sold at Sam's Club.

Per Beckett,
Inserted one per retail box, 10 of the 50 players from the Topps NBA Stars signed their reprint cards. Each card has a gold seal of authenticity and is signed on the front of the card in black ink. The set is skip-numbered. In addition, one of the ten cards were inserted into 1996-97 Topps Factory Hobby sets.

The 1996 Topps RC Reprint autos were box toppers on 1996-97 Topps (Kobe Rookie Year) factory sets. They are the ones that look like gold bars:

I bought one of these sets back in the day and pulled a Willis Reed.

I also had the Mikan at one time, and I really regret selling it; I'm going to buy another one of those Mikans one day.

That set is one of the best for HOF autographs.

Thanks for all the comments. It clears up my confusion. I love both autos. I got the Kareem as a gift from MGoBlue (shoutout) and the Walton (I got in a lot). That is my only Kareem auto and I have one other Walton auto (I believe).

Thanks for the info. I didn't realize the set was so small. I have the Monroe and Hayes. I didn't know I already had 20% of the set. Might just look for a few of other now.

It's a really fun set to do. I put this one together back in the day on a low budget and actually got 9/10 cards for free (basically) finding them in lots and reselling the rest of the lot. Ended up finding the Mikan for under $100. Can't beat that value wise.

This, along with the Gold standard HOF 1994 set, would be the two most fun cheap auto sets. Super undervalued. Lots of history. Lots of fun
