For a guy never making the Playoffs, he sure does want a lot of money.

For a team that is going to trot out Geno Smith as their starter the Jets sure are being cheap

Why should the Jets overpay for Fitz? He has a resume that does not back up the money he wants

The Jets had a playoff berth in their hands and who puked down their shirt the hardest when it counted? Fitzbeardtrick.

Define "overpay".

And in your equation - keep in mind Jets options.

I would have loved the Jets trade for Philip Rivers. My definition of overpay is when Fitzpatrick wants to get paid like a playoff quarterback.

Why does it matter? It's not long term.

He gives you the best chance to win and can be had for basically one year

Jets are dumb for playing chicken

Thanks for proving my point

If the Browns paid Fitzpatrick for one year? I'd be pumped

It's not my money and he doesn't want a long term deal

Appreciate the help

Who else is going to sign him? Any team that could doesn't have the opportunity to start or cannot offer enough cash, so the Jets are the only landing spot and they're being very shrewd, especially as July drags on. The amount of opportunities to go elsewhere are drying up.

12 million is more than double what any team is willing to pay him. As for years two and three of the contract, if he starts, then he'll make his full 12 million, if he's the backup he's being payed elite backup money. I get he wants more guaranteed but the jets know they don't have to give him any more then they are already offering.

I must be the only guy who wants Geno to get a shot. He should have started last year until he was punched in the face.

At this point in his career, his base salary would be fully guranateed anyways, so he wants more cash up front. A guy that has been hideously below average his entire career should be more contrite.

Fitz is the best QB the Jets have had since.....? Pennington? Fitz is better than Pennington. And don't give me Favre.

The ball is in Fitzy's court and both sides know it.

Neither side has a better option. Fitz is just trying to play the game. The jets refuse to pay him more than they value him for their team. They have Geno, Petty and Hackenberg. Not like those 3 are quality options, but they are options.

I say they hold an open competition with all 3 and act as though they are going to move on with or without fitz. If by that point fitz doesn't concede then he's contemplating what it's worth for him to play over retire. He knows he won't get that money anywhere else.
