Nah, you're missing the point. They were dismissed LONG before that, and it's not because people hate women. No one watches them play basketball because the product is terrible compared to the other options, and soccer is well.. soccer.

Please no hard feelings. I like the Royals, if that helps? Worked for them once and everything!

Listen, this whole protest the national anthem thing is only going to get larger and larger. As the country has shown since Trump's victory, protesting is in. The trouble I have with all of these athletes taking a knee is that I really don't know what it is they're protesting.

Is it Trump specifically? Is it racial injustice? Is it economic injustice? Is there a specific even that has happened? In the case of Bruce Maxwell, why is he taking a knee and what is he doing outside of this action to further his cause? I feel like everyone out there is just looking for anyway they can to make themselves relevant ... and taking a knee for 60 seconds is the easiest way to do it. For 48 hours, Bruce Maxwell will be a hero to 60 million Americans.

This ultimately ends one of two ways. It becomes so common place that people don't care anymore OR the leagues are taking a PR and ratings beating and decide to remove the anthem from games. I'm more inclined to believe the latter will happen, because Trump is likely going to be here a long time and he's not changing.

Is it Trump specifically? No

Is it racial injustice? Yes

In the case of Bruce Maxwell, why is he taking a knee? Based on his own personal Tweets I believe he felt Trump made it more than a racial/black thing by telling owners they should fire players for protesting.

Many people asked "why is he protesting". This was in ESPN's article about it:

In a text message to the San Francisco Chronicle, Maxwell's agent, Matt Sosnick, confirmed that the player took a knee in response to Trump's comments on Friday.

"Bruce's father is a proud military lifer. Anyone who knows Bruce or his parents is well aware that the Maxwells' love and appreciation for our country is indisputable," Sosnick told the Chronicle.

"Bruce has made it clear that he is taking a stand about what he perceives as racial injustices in this country and his personal disappointment with President Trump's response to a number of professional athletes' totally peaceful, nonviolent protests.

"Bruce has shared with both me and his teammates that his feelings have nothing to do with a lack of patriotism or a hatred of any man, but rather everything to do with equality for men, women and children, regardless of race or religion."

I wish he would've taken a moment to consider all the feelings he was going to hurt! Hurting feelings is bad!

I think people are being really tame. I am on another collecting site and, at this point, people would already be threatening eachother.

I think that was a protest directed at Trump due to Trump's tweets today.

Few things caught my attention by Maxwell

1 Stood in Front of the Line in his protest not somewhere on the bench where he wouldnt be seen.
( Making sure you see him )

2 Hat removed & placed with hand over heart facing the flag while taking the knee
( Saying I am respecting the flag while I am protesting )

3 Teammate with hand on his shoulder
( I/we have your back )

This did not come off to me as a "radical protest". Before I read his comments I was thinking the Trump tweets.

Will he continue for the rest of the season?

( Please note I am not commenting either way on politics. Just my observations on Maxwell today.)

That may be true but this thread will be gone by the morning. No doubt about it.

What do you mean by bean? First off he shouldnt be hit at all. But if someone takes a shot at his head I think it will get ugly.

If this thread stays civil it should stay. Honest discussion. If it gets nasty & personal its another matter.

I think there will be backlash at the pitcher. There may be a few that would support him but he is looking at a nice suspension if its purposeful.

Now from a baseball point of view will pitchers be scared to throw inside to him for fear of being accused of trying to hit him for kneeling?
