Sports & Politics This section is for all political sports talk. Regrettably we feel that in some instances there is no way to eliminate politics from football, basketball, and baseball hobbytalk. Do you pretend nothing is happening with the Warriors, Steelers, A's, etc? This section is for all political sports discussion. However, it is for civil discussion only. No insults aimed at members, political parties, or politicians will be tolerated. There is no warning. If you cannot be civil, you will lose your posting privileges on this site.

Ah, FINALLY!!! It's about time this happened. Thanks for this, houdini.

I can't wait to start reporting threads on the basketball forum any time politics show up, God you have no idea how excited I am.

I hope this is the first step toward a utopian future, where league talk will also have its own area. I'm so happy, that today...I'm not going to kick any puppies or elbow drop any kittens.

This is why there won't be common ground. Players are kneeling because they feel stories like the one linked above are an injustice. Mentally ill? Unarmed? Innocent man?

Give me a break. These nice men getting gunned down are criminals, often in the act or being pursued for said crime, armed etc.

Again above a famous person with a voice spreading lies to make this seem an innocent man was murdered. What's crazy is that millions are following this craze since it's "the new cause".

There are no doubt some rotten apples among the 900k+ police officers in this country, but for people to say that their is systemic racism and that black men are basically being hunted and murdered by cops is ridiculous when you look at any stats regarding the claims. A black man is many times more likely to die at the hands of another black man than at the hands of the police. Greg Popovich says white people need to be made uncomfortable when talking about race. All people need to be made "uncomfortable" if that's the case. You can't talk about oppression of black people without talking about how they oppress themselves as much as any white people do. Why are black kids that strive to excel academically often stigmatized by other blacks and told they are "acting white"? How is trying to better yourself "acting white"? Why have 500 people been murdered in Chicago alone this year? Any real discussion on race can't only be about "white people are racist and oppress black people". There are lots of nooks and cranny's that need to be explored to have any honest, intellectual discussion on race in America.

Sucks you were forced to come into the thread and comment. I'm sorry for your oppression.

It sounds like you are taking my oppression lightly....

If you really mean that, can you get out and protest for me?

Or are you trying to oppress or bully me into not commenting?

Do i not have a right to comment and share my thoughts?

Take a Knee

How can I oppress you into not commenting when you are obviously being oppressed to comment on something you apparently loathe. Tell me who is oppressing you and I will protest them. Won't do any hollow virtue signaling like taking a knee though unless literally taking the knees out of your oppressors.

I think the board talked it over last year and decided a new National Anthem would be the answer. Something so catchy, that you just can't do anything else but dance when you heard it. Even the stodgiest among us would snap their fingers and make their necks work.
And this dance, whether spontaneous or choreographed, while the anthem played would be be understood to be expressly thanking the brave soldiers, honorable police, reliable civil servants, engaged citizens, and remember with special gratitude those fallen in the line of such duties, lest we ever forget the dear cost they paid to build this mighty nation.
It's early in the process, but something like "I Gotta Feeling" by Black-Eyed Peas but with patriotic lyrics, obviously. It could be played at different tempos, regarding the occasion. Pretty sure this is the right answer.
America is great. We have made it so. Let us dance.

I was thinking "Tie Me Kangaroo Down", but that's so closely identified with Australia, I fear it would be inappropriate.

I have invited 2 members to no longer post in this section.

Please keep comments to sports related politics or lose the opportunity, ok?

More likely things like this. A mistrial? This is what the kneeling is for.

Yes, the officer in THIS situation was wrong. Shooting a PERSON for any reason is bad unless to save yourself or the people you are suppose to protect. I think in this case the officer was found guilty and sentenced as he should be. Now lets breaks this down to see what REALLY happened.
1. For the record I have been pulled over for a light being out a few times.
2. Lied to the officer-The person who was shot gave the officer 2 different answers to a simple question"Is this car yours?" Answers-1.Yes & 2.Gonna be come Monday. So now the officer knows he is lying about something.
3.Person who was shot was told to STAY in the car, twice.
4.Person who was shot ran from officer after being told MANY times to stop.
5.Person who was shot should have NEVER reached for the officer's taser.
6.Officer should have NEVER shot the man in the back. Should have ran him down, used the taser on him or wait for back up.
The keys here are to do what a officer tells you to do. If for some reason he(The officer) is rough to you, you can always use the police video to make your point.
I have a 21 year old son that has a permit to carry a gun. I've told him from the start ALWAYS do what the police ask you to do OR you could be dead. Everyone knows there are bad apples in all forms of jobs and yes this officer was. I would love to protest murders, thieves and all forms of law breakers BUT in today's world that's called profiling. I don't care who or what you are listen to the police,do what they say(To a certain level) and stay alive.
