Huge blow and do we have any Doctors in the house on how this injury heals/doesn't heal ?

My Mavs are a lottery team and I wanted this guy or Bagley

I say Ayton and Dennis smith would be better than either porter/bagley paired with him.

Something is just really fishy about this. He played 2 minutes and said his hip hurt with no play to point to as the reason. Then his coach said it wasn't a hip injury but a leg injury, now it comes out that he has had back surgery. Just a weird deal.

Disc injuries commonly cause referred pain below the waist. Most likely the team was hiding the actual injury.

Long term prognosis after discectomies is pretty good, but there’s always worry that there will be downstream issues from the repair itself. Look at Steve Kerr if you want an extreme example of what can go wrong after spinal surgery.

Ayton is an absolute monster. He's going to be a stud in the NBA.

I haven't been all that impressed with Porter. But that said i hate seeing injuries derail guys. Hope he comes back strong.

going to go out on a limb and say the dude didn't want to play college basketball, and this is just a cover to avoid an actual injury from actually happening. Guaranteed money and lottery pick status will still likely be intact. It's just a weird deal all together as someone above has mentioned the injury has now been called three different things.

Having another back surgery. Uh oh. No wonder so many teams passed on him.

I think all teams knew he would be getting another surgery though. I think they drafted him for next year hoping they pull a Simmons. Back injuries are tough. At the draft he was dealing with issues from his back. So they all had to know plus the physical and medical records if they get to see that stuff.

Yeah the Nuggets took a huge risk with this dude. So he was expected to have another surgery? I don’t remember hearing anything about that.

I remember hearing around the draft that he was having bad back spasms that were making it hard to do much physically.

Right before surgery the surgeon says: "Relax, Jim. It's just a small scalpel incision. No reason to panic."

The patient replies: "But, Doctor, my name is not Jim." The surgeon says: "I know. I'm Jim."

If surgery goes well should make a great recovery.
