Nothing in "PG" states that a 5 yr. old can't watch the film.

For those that doubt, here ya go.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motion..._rating_system
The ratings used from 1972 to 1984 were:
Rated PG: Parental Guidance Suggested – Some material may not be suitable for pre-teenagers

http://www.cbbfc.co.uk/pg
"A PG film should not worry a child aged eight or older so BBFC Compliance Officers are thinking of eight year olds when they decide about the rating and how strong the issues are.

A PG tells parents that the content of the film may upset younger or more sensitive children."

This kid is afraid of clowns & Goosebumps.
My goosebumps don't scare me; the ghost next to me might.
Clowns?
I have no interest in getting eaten by a "Rakshasa".
Clowns?
I say, 'Bonk, bonk, on the head'.

Show 'em the original "It" movie.
That is so lame.
I thought it was the stuff back in the day.
I re-watched it and bORing.
Even the remake was kinda dull.
Where were the scenes of dismemberment and the horrific can't look...turn away! Turn away!
I was disappointed in the re-make.

Hell might as well chuck 'em under the house and tell them that the spiders will suck out all their blood, if they fall asleep.
Some spiders might even crawl in your ear and nest in your brain and lay eggs.
When you get headaches, it is the spider's eggs hatching and the little baby spiders are eating your brain.

Film it.
I'll bet it'll go viral and be better than watching Jaws.

Spielberg, the director of "Jaws", was notorious with pushing the line with his content, getting away with as much as he possibly could and still get a PG rating.

It was his "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom" and the controversial PG rating it earned despite containing horrific images that set the stage for the PG-13 rating we've had since the 1984. "Red Dawn" which came out 3 months after "Temple of Doom" was the first to get that rating.

In between "Jaws" and "Temple of Doom", Spielberg produced 1982's "Poltergeist" which also straddled the line between PG and R, only to get the PG which undoubtedly helped it be a bigger box office success. That PG movie is probably a bit much for 5 year olds. I saw it at the cinema, and even though I was 11, it scared me pretty well, especially when the paranormal investigator rips his own face off while looking in a mirror.

Are you sure?

I started from the beginning (and its all like 'meh') and then I got to those 2.
I did laugh out loud (not a chuckle, but a laugh).

Maybe it was all in my head?

It wasn't boring.

We're at 3 pages.
It won't be like the flu thread, I know.
But who knows......maybe?

It is 64 to 32.
Kid shouldn't watch it.
Game over.

But then where is the meaninglessness?

I will admit I wasn't laughing when I wrote it.
It was more of a wry smile.

Maybe I was BORED out of my mind and in need of anything funny.
You injected a little humor into my otherwise dreary life.

Hey I laughed, when I heard the muzak playing in the mall during the 2004 film (Dawn of the Dead).
I recognized it as Bobby McFerrin's "Don't Worry Be Happy".

You are the shield that guards the innocence of your child's heart. Without you to protect them who will they have?

Uhmm, strangers in a forum?

Hey...they gotta grow up sometime...right?
Chuck 'em in the deep end and see if they swim.

Wasn't God supposed to save the witches that were dunked in water?

You sink, you're innocent.

If we're all sunk, we're all innocent.
Problem solved; case closed; people shielded.

So, yeah, strangers prevail against parents.
Bad parents, bad (smack 'em in the nose with a newspaper), bad.

Jaws is appropriate for a 15 year old. Not a 5 year old.

I think 10, if you explain to them beforehand that the shark isn't real (and that even the robot version they used barely worked) and that no one really gets hurt.

I actually show(ed) Jaws as part of an Ecology Curriculum

Here goes

A five year old will understand about NONE of the following:

Marijuana use and alcohol in opening scene. Boobs in the remastered version (lightened up A LOT). Hand with crabs picking at it coming out of the sand.

Young child on beach attacked by shark.

Some smoking, some drinking, and a couple of scary shark moments. Blood in the water. Very "jump out of your seat" when the head floats by. Brody asks wife to "fool around"

On the boat there's drinking (bonding) among men and of course the Indianapolis story. Quinn gets eaten (blood out of mouth). Brody almost says Bitch.

The kid will catch that there are about 5 bad words and 2/3 bloody scenes.

Truth is this..... it is a VERY boring movie for a lot of folks. Then there's the other half that will be ignorantly scared to go in the ocean for some time.

Should you show your kid ? I'm not your wife......

Indeed. The famous tag-line for "Jaws 2" was:

"Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water..."
