Scared money is what kills a market... period.
We recently had a huge influx of people get into comics with ASM #700 and now they are running scared.. we needed this purge. My guess is that by August or so you will see things bottom out and a rebound on good books start happening.

Honestly there is a lot of noise in the Modern Age market right now. If you look at the lyriaexchange.com website you get a pretty clear understanding of what's hot with every age except the Modern Age. That reason, in my opinion, is because a ton of speculators are all in there pushing their flavor of the week. It's like 40 people in a room all shouting at you about their book being hot and desired and all it does is make everyone confused. That's what I'm interrupting going on in the Modern Age right now. There are books out there worth owning but you just don't know it because of the noise ratio.
My two cents.

Sixth Gun, Nowhere Men, Manhattan Project, All New X-men, Saga, Superior Spider-Man. Even some of the new stuff, East of West, Helheim, and Uber can be in there. Nova is also a really good story as well. Sorry for the DC fans out there, just not really digging many of their storylines. Scarlett Spider isn't bad either.

Nova has been excellent. I'm loving it so far. You guys should get on board before we get too far away from #1

Sixth Gun is still selling. Not for what it was, but you can still get good money for the books.

What is interesting is the amount of Silverage / Golden age that has dropped in price. I don't quite remember this much material falling, even last year at this time. Btw, May - Aug is the worst time to sell books, unless you are at cons, then you'll make the most amount of money (versus ebay/other auction online sites). Last year at our con for instance, was a great buying show: bought a Hulk 1 & FF 1, and flipped them for good profit. Just like in the stock market, there are always ways to make $$ guys even in bad markets, so keep this in mind. |

I've been selling my stuff and focusing on sa/ba keys. Stopped picking up large amounts of moderns since I noticed the influx of people pre ordering large amounts of new books. Moved a lot of money into stock options cause the markets hot right now. Only books I pretty much go after now are the spawn and star wars sketches to flip. Everything else is just for my personal collection of moderns.

I think us as collectors need to be careful about investing big bucks into modern books hoping they will gain value. An old lesson from the 90's is the old books are the books that will always keep or hold value. Walking deads are rare......... And truthfully, I am curious how much the books will hold value once the show ends. But if there are movies, then it just may continue to go up.

The issue is that at your LCS sitting on the shelf is a book at $3.99 that could be selling on eBay for $40+ and while the keys are always better bets, they require a significant investment which may or may not increase for a few years to come. In other words flipping moderns is a better % return for your dollars if you find the right books where as the older stuff is like blue chip stocks, you have to hold on to it for years in order to see any type of return. Not that I'm advocating flipping or modern comics, just showing you why they are so much more susceptible for the person just now entering the market.

East of West is still doing ok in terms of sales volume but prices on regular and ghost covers have been dropping.
The Forbidden planet cover is holding up pretty well with most sales around USD30. Interesting the 9.8 versions are not selling well even at USD100 given that the raw is already a USD30 book. Forbidden planet EoW completed listings |

I've been noticing this as well. I actually just sold the Vanity Variant 9.8 for $60. I purchased it for $18 a few months ago.
The story is really getting its legs and more people seem to be taking notice. |
