I live in Louisville and there are 3 Hot Topics in the area. Only 1 of the 3 had them (I called each after reading the news) and the Southern Indiana store had 8 on the shelves. Not even behind the counter, just in the Star Wars part of the store. I bought all 8 for $32! It was buy 1, get 1 50% off, and retail was $4.99.

I listed 4 on eBay. I can't decide how many to keep - I love to buy rare keys and stash, AND I collect a bit of star wars (mostly carded vintage figures) so I know I'll keep one. I'm going to see how the 4 I listed do. I hate to cannibalize my own listings!

I'll post a pic in a few minutes.

That's awesome. Sell 'em while they're hot, keep a couple for yourself. It's the Junkie way!

So this is floating around on FB..might want to start selling all those copies while you can. Now whether or not stores actually destroyed them..which I see no reason for..they're most likely sitting in a back room which is what I suspected all along.

Yes this was all but expected. It makes no sense to issue a recall and the destruction of a book simply because it contained a time sensitive advertisement that released too early. If that was indeed the reason the book was taken off the shelves initially. No reason to incur the loss when you could just have the stores hold the books until the appropriate date had passed. There was way too much "he said/she said" nonsense regarding the "recall" of this book in online forums for it to believed. Obviously the print run has been affected, but this book isn't going to sniff two hundred dollars again, or even half that.

Indy I've heard it reported by a few people that stores that sat on them instead of destroying them were told to just sell them because the ad and story leaked online. Not sure of the truth to this one or if these are isolated incidents of people misunderstanding directions. Or getting conflicting information depending on what the DM's tell them to do.

I can only see this going down further. Amazing what a week and a bunch of conflicting information can do (recalled/not recalled, destroyed/not destroyed).

I think the conflicting information came from conflicting information being given to the employees. Some stores were (apparently) told to hold while others were told destroy. I can vouch that at least a few stores did destroy these things. But now we're seeing there are stores that did indeed hold them and put them out. Personally I've found all of this quite entertaining.

So perhaps a lot got destroyed, but looking at Ebay, a lot did not. I can see a lot of "Item not as described" cases being opened.

Nice CSI work my man. That puts that to bed and pretty much seals this books fate. Lots of regret is going to set into people who paid a high price for this thing. Wonder how many sellers are going to eat it on this one.

Kudos to everyone that got in, got their money, and got out before this whole thing collapsed. It did make for an entertaining week.

Yeah this needs to happen more often. It was far too entertaining.

That's pretty much what the guy told me at the store, that it was OK to put them out if they weren't destroyed, already.

The question is, are they printing a new version of the comic still?

I don't know, but I doubt it. I'm glad I only sent one in for grading at this point.

Indy I'll bet you 5 brownie points that if you get a 9.8 out of it the thing will still sell north of 100 dollars. I still see these being very condition sensitive. At least in theory. Might depend how fast it comes back though. I'd imagine the first few 9.8's will do much better than the later ones.

Yeah, it's still Star Wars and I'm guessing some managers did as they were told and many were destroyed.

Just called all 4 locations here in San Antonio.

What a surprise... I received 4 different answers.

We just sold out
We don't have any in stock
We destroyed them all
We don't carry it

Lmao.

What a joke.

I committed to buy one over on CGC for 125. I paid 1/2 now and rest next week. Either way, if it bombs and prices go way down like I've seen already then oh well I guess. I committed to it and have to complete the transaction.

I was obtaining a copy for my PC any way and had no interest in trying to flip it like most people.

It was/still is an interesting week so far!

Glad to any who picked up and sold this already but this is a big sinking fish for these reasons. First all copies were not destroyed, second no reprint is planned, third the back cover is no longer considered "confidential". This was smoke and mirrors at best - the hype train was strong on this one - glad I sat it out.

I worry if too many new collectors jump and get burned like this it might have longer lasting consequences on the overall modern market.

So will we see a wave of returns...??

I still have the copy that I bought on Monday. I missed out on a couple of offers, but my investment was only $5. Ah well it was still a fun week!

BTW I tend to believe none got out in SA ....just do an Ebay search on copies sold, nearest distance to you and you get an idea of what and possibly how many made it out in your area. The only ones within a 90 mile radius of San Antonio sold were listed as being from the online store.
