Default Topps and UD use same photos for Aaron Rodgers RCs?

Curious why UD and Topps both used the same photos of Aaron Rodgers on a few rookie cards? I'm surprised there isn't some kind of copyright law in place from company to company, to discourage this from happening.

The companies hire out photographers and those guys are the ones with the rights to the Photos, not the card companies.

Thanks for the info. Still seems like a big oversight by both companies.

Not really, its not like Upper Deck and Topps would hang out before making cards so they can share notes on what pictures they will be using.

Like its been pointed out earlier, companies will often buy photos to use. In the case of Aaron Rodgers, he was not at the rookie premier for these companies to take their own pictures.

Everyone company wanted pictures of Rodgers in a Packers Uniform (you dont have to pay NCAA) so the 1st shots of him came from mini camp. Thats why he is shown in his practice jersey.

Timing is everything, you get pictures from the 1st guy that took the pictures so you can hurry up and make cards that will release shortly after. In this case both UD & Topps selected the same image from what I'm sure was a very limited portfolio.

He didn't go to the rookie premiere, so they didn't have photos to use..... they had to get/purchase minicamp photos from third parties, most of his RC relics are game used as well because of this.
