Default Is Adam Vinatieri a first ballot Hall of Famer?

Iím just curious to see what others think, especially since the Hall is weary on special teams guys. Thereís only a handful of kickers/punters in the Hall, if that.

But personally, I would put Vinatieri in on the first ballot. He truly is the greatest kicker of all time and how heís still playing, is amazing. The Hall should have the best players at their position in the HOF, and in my eyes, heís unquestionably the best kicker of all-time.

So would you vote him in first ballot? Or would he be a second/third/fourth ballot guy? Or a veteranís committee pick?

No question.

He carried Brady for the first half of Brady's career.

He is the ALL-TIME greatest CLUTCH Kicker in the History of the NFL. Does that translate to being a Hall Of Famer on his first Ballot ? ? ? Brady gave Adam the opportunities to be Clutch.

He'll break Morten Andersen's all-time scoring record next year. He's 83 points away from tying the record, and he's scored at least 100 points a year in all but two seasons (one of which was cut short by injury). That doesn't address your question, but I thought it was interesting.

I didn't vote because I believe he should be in but there are so many deserving players who have yet to be inducted. Is Adam better than those who have been waiting for decades ? My opinion, A sure HOF member but First Ballot with so many others who are deserving?

Have any of them been critical parts of three Super Bowls?

BostonNut- NO, The question by TWard is a "First" Ballot. Is Adam V. that much better than Ray Guy who had to wait decades as the BEST at his position in order to receive entry to the Hall, NO.

Ray Guy didn't play a key role in three Super Bowls.

Ray Guy played a key role in 2 Super Bowl victories. Is Vinatieri the Best All Time Kicker ever going to be allowed to go in on a first ballot and the Best Ever Punter has to wait decades. How many awards have Vinatieri's name on it?

It can be argued...not by me...that kickers are more important than punters.

I just think there is too much to not put him in as a first ballot hall of famer.

Stats, wins, longevity, rings...they are all there in bright red bold font.

Yes. I do think Kickers need to be in the HOF too. As a Lions fan, I think Hanson is a HOFer, but I doubt he ever gets in

a kicker will never make it first ballot. He should make it in but no chance first ballot.

While I do believe he will be inducted into the HOF, I don't think there's a chance in hell he gets in on his first ballot.

He will get in, but no on the first ballot. In the grade schemes of things, kickers don't separate themselves from other positions. The difference between the best kicker in the league and the 20th is very small. All things being equal, I would always pick a positional player over a kicker.

Not first ballot, though he's earned it.

I donít know about Hanson being in the HOF, but kickers deserve to be in the HOF just as much as positional guys. They do play pivotal parts in the game and arguably have the toughest job in the league (excluding QBís).

I think the top-5 kickers deserve to be in the HOF, just as much as the top-5 RBís, OTís, LBís, CBís and so on.

If we were to draft a fantasy team, where would Vinatieri be with Owens, Watters, Holmes, etc ? Yes, he would eventually be drafted but in the first round, NO. Does he deserve to be in, Definately but the question was as a First Ballot.
Who will be on the Ballot with Vinatieri will give us the best outlook on his chances.

You highly underestimate the value of a highly reliable kicker.

Should he be? Yes

Will he be? Probably not, simply because he's a kicker

If he doesn't make it in at some point it's a crime though.

Hmm. Well, Hanson has the 4th most points in NFL history, and his career accuracy numbers are pretty close to Vinatieri.
