Default Local police officer shot and killed serving warrant today

Suspect was hiding in the attic and he was help clearing the house.
Suspect shot the K9 officer in the head and shot the K9 as well.

I knew who the officer was but my heart breaks for his family and fellow officers. I am friends with a couple of local officers and the brotherhood/sisterhood they share will help them get through this,

Suspect was arrested.

If it was a domestic issue then I thought the officer requires backup in order to enter? I don't believe that a K9 is considered a backup. My heart goes out to the officers family.

Right, it was a warrant AND he had the backup of two state troopers there also.

What I'm not understanding is why they didn't add 50+ bullets to his body instead of taking him into custody.

Because sadly in America we have grown so soft as a country it's becoming ridiculous. The whole "guilty until proven innocent" shouldn't be applied here. A cop was shot in the line of duty as well as the K9

Take the suspect out back and bring back the days of the firing line.

Cops don't get enough credit for all that they do. If there are any officers on here, thank you for your service.

Dont waste the time..hit what your aiming at (I know the stats and not say they didnt shoot back or cant hit what your aiming at - all the additional training police get for firearms does increase their accuracy but its not much mostly since your dealing with a pistol and distance). I'm not saying the shoot to wound), but I can assure you shoot at me and my intentions will be to stop you at all costs and tackling you is not going to be my first method.

Sadly he will be brought to justice and likely charged will murder on two accounts (typically K9 are considered officers and will be charged as such), but he will sadly get to rot in jail while on the tax payers dime and doesnt deserve this treatment, and my opinion says this should of ended with him having a ride in a black bag on the way to the morgue.

I have dealt with this department as a customer (Public Safety Uniforms) and have dealt directly with their K9 unit and Officer Gannon, this is such a tragic event.

Horribly tragic event.

Thoughts to the officers family as well as his fellow officers moving forward.

May the POS rot in hell for his actions

We are a small town. It is devastating. Sean was an incredibly nice man.
It was reported that his dog Nero had died as well but he survived. He was shot in the face and neck and is having surgery today. He is no where near out of the woods but there is hope.

There has been one man with the dog since he was stabilized at the scene. He will not leave Nero's side.

The POS who killed Sean should have been a cage a LONG time ago.

There was a "Meal Train" started to bring food to the station for all the extra bodies that will be there for the foreseeable future.

I will be bringing by deli trays on Sunday at lunch.

Rest well Sean

Just got some additional information from a friend with the Barnstable PD, the POS had over 100 priors and that was not the 1st time he had made threats towards a police officer.

I didn't realize that serving a warrant required going into the house to where the individual is located ? Why should a officer enter a home to serve a warrant without another officer present. Domestic should be anytime a officer is required to enter a home, in my opinion.
Since a police officer is a public servant, what does the public know about what the person who was being served the warrant? It won't bring back Sean but it may help the next officer who may need to serve the next warrant.

He was not alone in the house. He had other Officer's with him. They were doing a sweep of the house to try and locate the individual who had skipped probation. His K9 was shot as well. I am a Police Officer in MA and know several Officer's in his Department and my prayers go out to all of them. The scumbag who shot him isn't even 30 years old yet and has over 100 criminal charges against him. How he was out of jail is unbelievable.

This is terrible; it breaks my heart anytime I hear stories like this... Unfortunately, it’s all too common. Us common folks have no idea the risks these men and women take every day to keep us all safe from the monsters walking amongst us. To make matters worse, anytime our officers are put in situations to take action, they are automatically scrutinized and portrayed as emotionless pigs.

Living in St Louis, we’ve had multiple officers shot and killed or permanently paralyzed while in the line of duty within the last year or so. There are no words for the amount of respect I have for those that try to keep our neighborhoods safe for everyone. I’m so sorry for your loss and I’ll certainly be praying for everyone involved.

That's how it is here in California. The voters got weak and want "rehabilitation" over incarceration. A Pomona PD officer was recently killed here and CA governer Jerry Brown went to his funeral. Everyone ignored him because it was because of his "rehabilitation " laws that the criminal who killed the officer was out. The scumbag also had over 100 prior police contacts but he qualified for rehabilitation.

If you ever want your eyes opened, go to your local courthouse and spend a few hours there a few times. When you watch armed robbers plea down to simple assaults and walk out the door free even with 6 or 7 violent priors, you will see. When you watch that child molester get an 18 day sentence for continually abusing a 4 year old they were babysitting, you will get it. EVERY DAY the worst of society are released to prey upon the public, and deaths like this are the consequences to the action. Truly sad.
