He could end up being the best defensive third baseman of all time...

Displacing Brooks Robinson, whose teeming throngs of fans across generations have been made wealthy beyond imagination by the values his cards attained due to that accolade.

Some nice cards in this thread.

His offensive peripherals have gotten better -- better plate discipline and more balanced batted-ball distribution last season.

There's no reason he shouldn't be considered on par with Harper, when you factor in defense and durability. He seems to be in the midst of his prime, coming off his best season. While Harper is a few seasons removed from his best season.

his topps now cards are way under sold too.

Been wondering this for a while, but this thread and the Bryant vs Arenado GM Pick thread reminded me to ask:

What are the current price ranges for the top 3-5 Arenado prospect and RCs? Would be particularly interested in those figures for gem graded examples.

Just wondering how he does actually stack up hobby-wise to the other elite players in today’s game.

Btw, I still REALLY love that Bowman Sterling card. I think all the cards shown off here are sharp looking, but that one and the 2013 Heritage really jump out for me.

To me his prices are fairly similar to other established stars, although I’m by no means an Arenado collector who closely tracks. His Gem Chrome autos go in the 400 range for a base which is similar to other veteran (non prospect) established guys. His Update stuff is fairly affordable and is definitely far down from Kershaw/Altuve heights but more similar to Scherzer prices from what I see. Of course he’s in 13 and has all the Update Chrome goodness.

If I had to pick one other guy in the hobby who is similarly priced I would say Votto (and I also dabble in a good amount of Votto).

Many thanks for the info.

Votto. Thereís another massively underappreciated guy. While Arenado and Goldy totally have legit beefs for not getting more attention and appreciation, I think Votto is #1 on that list (even though he did win an MVP a few years ago and almost did again last year). I think Votto is arguably the best overall hitter of this era, when you factor in the full spectrum of the batting exercise and approach to it. You know when tons of other great players (including guys like Kris Bryant and Anthony Rizzo) say they aspire to be more like Joey Votto, the guy is special.

That Heritage auto is unbelievable. I want to buy one but they just don't exist on Ebay. I am sure when he wins MVP this year with a 300/45/150 season one or two will pop up.

I posted this in the Arenado v. Bryant thread but I think it belongs here as well. Guy is just so fun to watch and does things that do not even seem possible.

Guess that’s why he’s so adept at hitting in zero atmosphere.

And having said that, I want to immediately profusely apologize to Nolan’s Army for being unable to resist swinging at that dangling breaking ball.

He is a phenomenal talent and seems like a genuinely cool guy. I think he along with Votto and Goldy are undeniably the most criminally underappreciated great players in the modern game. I don’t think he will ever get his full due playing in CO, especially with the mounting importance of newfangled stats, but I do sincerely like and respect him and believe he could be a great player anywhere.

And he has a lot of cool cards.

If he has another typical year, I wouldn’t at all mind him winning the MVP. I personally would have voted for Votto last year, but I would have had Arenado #2 ahead of Stanton, fwiw.

I'm not worried about Arenado's exposure. It's going to happen one way or the other. If he goes to a major market then the MLB will realize that there isn't a player in the MLB that would attract eyeballs like Arenado.
