Default ebay refund question...

Well,

I'm usually 'issue free' with Ebay but I have encounter a good case lately.

Here's the long story short:

I sold an Eric Gordon Chrome Rookie Graded 10 by PSA. Shipped the cards and 3 weeks later the guy still hasen't received it so we exchange some messages and I explain to him that sometimes the customs from Canada to the US can take a while as I have no control over this. Right after that, he opens a case pending for the card to show up.

Up until then, I was faithful that the card would show.

And now today I receive this message.

Hello, after waiting so long for this item i received it today DESTROYED!!! The case is cracked all the way through in the front from one side to the other and the back of the case is also cracked almost as bad. The card also looks bent. I would like a FULL REFUND BY 12:00 p.m TONIGHT our I will move forward with my EBAY case. I work until 10pm tonight and if you would like pictues I will gladly send them to your email address. If you would like me to ship the card back just include the return shipping with the refund. We need to resolve this promptly!! Thanks

Of course, the card is destroyed. In order to destroy a PSA case in a bubble mailer, one must roll on it with a car or have a go at it with a hammer, it's not an easy task even for the USPS. I strongly suspect he had a second tought on his purchase but I'm not really in the mood for a hassle. So what are my options here?

My first taught was to offer full refund once the card is received back but he insist on my refunding his shipping fees as well.

Is there any way Ebay will back me here and not make me pay his shipping but only the money paid for the card initially?

I'm waiting for the pics but if the case was 'destroyed' I pretty much lost a very good looking chrome rookie. Sucks donkey's balls.

Any tips would be appreciated here.
Thanks

Correct me if I'm wrong - but per eBay rules he has to pay for the shipping to get it back to you - if he opens an eBay case they won't do anything until he provides the tracking information that you got it back - so therefore he has to pay for it.

That's my understanding without actually going to ebay to check.

Had the same understanding but I can't check on Ebay from work, it's blocked.

Damn

I think we are correct - I would offer him a refund but only after he ships back - he won't win an eBay case unless he can provide proof it was delivered to you - so his threat is idle as he's going to have to pay to ship it back.

Just make him follow the rules. If he wants to proceed with a case he has to ship it back and provide tracking. He has to pay the return shipping. I would wait for him to provide the pictures and then tell him to follow the ebay/paypal procedures for return.

Thanks for the input mate.

Hopefully, he will back out once he needs to follow the steps. I strongly doubt this is a 'legit break'.

Anyway...we'll see tonight when I get home.

yeah no way can he make you refund first. If he wont ship first let him go through eBay and eBay will tell him to ship the card and give them a DC number. ONce you receive the card back they will refund the money if you don't.

You are most likely going to get a negative feedback so don't even bother to pay for his return shipping. Wait to get your item back then refund.

God I hate ebay.

The buyer just said it returned the item and Ebay refunded instantly, without me confirming anything.

God I hate them.

It's so stupid...
