Default Young Guns hunting via retail, Question

yea yea yea, retail "sucks" yada, yada, yada

good, got that out of the way.

so......

when one wants to go YG hunting, which would be the better option for landing the one particular one you'd like?

3 Blasters = 6 YGs
1 retail box = 6 YGs

since cost is essentially the same.

i was thinking the retail box, as you have 6 shouts out of 50 YGs to land it

while the blasters also have 6 shots, wouldnt it be more like 2 out of 50 each time? (since the blaster "reloads" for each one)

The retail box of you are figuring cost is the same. Don't you get more canvas that way?

My preference would be retail box, tin, blaster with the jumbo YG then regular blaster last.

I don't think retail sucks per-say. It depends on the product. Parkhurst could give you some great hits, and same with UD S1/S2. It's still a gamble, just like a hobby box, but worth it in some instances.

My preference would also be the retail tin first before the other options.

I like the 24 count retail boxes. 20-25 bones cheaper than hobby and if you're not dying to pull an Exclusives/High Gloss (they're always nice to see), save the money and get all the YGs you want. You also get a jersey card per box which can be nice.

The tins are rad, too. Just buy 'em all. I have two series 2 hobby boxes coming in this afternoon. Here's to pulling more Laine!

Nice I think retail in Upper Deck Hockey is the way to go, like you said the Exclusives and High Gloss are nice but they are so hard to pull, I would rather get more young guns for the lesser cost.

How many McDavids would you expect in one of these cases? 1-2?

I watched a bunch of breaks, I am really hoping for at least one, but I am taking a shot hoping maybe 2.

I did a case of these last year at $300. I hit two mcdavids in back to back blasters.

It's possible to get 0, it's possible to get 3. In my case I got 0. It's not like a hobby case where you're guaranteed a whole set plus 60% of a second set. The blasters are totally random in which two card run of YGs you get.

Are the blasters the 12 pack jobs with 2 YGs per? I can't remember, but if so, that'd put you at 40 YGs. There are 50 YGs, so the odds aren't terrible of hitting one, but you'd have to kill the odds to get 2.

Then again--my numbers could be way off!

I guess for me I wouldn't want to open that many cards. I would probably buy the case just to hold. I'd rather bust an 8 or 16 hobby box case of portfolio instead

I wish I had gone all in on a case or two of SP Authentic. They're pulling 40-50 more per box at this point, it's irritating. Opened six boxes around release and loved it. Series 2 will have to do until next year.

I'm fortunate that my LCS still has them for $120. Which I believe is more than what they were released at, but still cheaper than what I've seen online.

great stuff fellas, really appreciate it. rarely get much traction on my posts! LOL

as for the Tins, those sound great, but seem to be somewhat cost prohibitive vs regular retail

Yeah, that's a lot more doable than they were at the Chantilly show. Cheapest I saw was 130 or 140. With Judge completely breaking Heritage this year that was out of the picture.

The blaster cases usually have HORRIBLE collation. I've done several of the blaster and tin cases and the likelihood of getting doubles or even triples of some scrub YG are very high. There was a very small percentage of cases that had dupes of the #1 guy, but it's a real shot in the dark. I once did 3 CASES of blasters and couldn't complete a single YG set of 50(that's 120 YG's).

Just did two boxes of series 2. Hit a YG acetate of Scott Wedgewood and a Laine Portaits gold foil to 99. Other 11 YGs were bottom of the barrel. I'm going to pull a Laine or Marner YG variation soon!

Well, if the expected value of McDavids pulled in a retail case is 1-1.5, then you are still up by buying cases right now, even without taking into account the other cards you would pull.

Are there even retail cases for sale of 2015-16 UD Series 1?

I see some hobby cases for sale on various sites ... just not keen on the asking price...
