Pretty sure this is the original first edition as I got it with the original japanese pokemon and neo genesis. I know nothing about yugioh so is there any benefit to opening?

No real reason to open them, they are fixed decks, so you know exactly what cards you are getting in each one. You would only open them if you were going to grade the main card in each deck, with the hope they would grade gem mint. But it's crazy how high those sealed decks sell for, congrats on finding them (and for keeping them sealed)!

These are NOT the original 1st Edition decks. If they were, the hanger tab on the top of the box would say “1st Edition” in white letters on the right corner. These would be part of the subsequent wave of decks distributed after the 1st editions dried up. Still a very nice find. In theory, you should have a good amount of key cards in PSA 10 form in those sealed boxes.

I remember stopping at a gas station with my dad a week or two after the 1st Edition decks dropped and he bought me a Kaiba starter deck. As much as I wish I had the foresight to keep it sealed, I know I got hundreds of hours of enjoyment out of these cards. Still have all the key cards in EX+ condition too.
