Nice first post and bumping a three year old thread.

Nothing, because with JSS it's an extra $49.50.

It adds up when you are buying 100s of cards.

OMG, this thread...I had totally forgotten about it.

When it first started, I was still in the COMC ID department and the guy who was monitoring the forums and such came up to our section of the building and asked, with all the innocence in the world, "Hey guys, does calling someone a 'Richard' means anything to collectors?"

This was the same guy who was proud of the fact that he didn't have a tv, didn't watch sports, and thought articles about Tennis would make the COMC blog irresistible to readers... good times, great memories...

Well, I made the mistake of offering $30 for a card priced at $45. The card doesn't come up for sale often, but the last two eBay sales were $30.

And the offer was immediately rejected and the price raised to $150.

I must just be dense. Apparently offering eBay prices is lowballing.

He does it all the time. I have purchased a few cards form him. I do not think he will sell me a card any more after what I did.

He has a lot of cards I need. His lowest offer allowed is a little higher then what I'm want to pay. So I once made $60.00 worth of offers at his lowest. Would have done more but that is all I have in my account. (lot of his $3.00 cards) He made one counter offer of for $2.99 and there was a card listed at $2.50. The others he rejected and raised them to $12.00 or more.

Then I went in and put in error reports of too high of a price on about 100 cards he had. He is a card!!!!

Sounds like people should start making low ball offers on items to see if he hikes up his prices and gets no sales at all

Boy I blow it and give in!!! I give him a dollar. I guest that is how he make his money.

Story:
base card he had it for 2.75 the only one
silver parallel his for 1.00 and other guy had one for 2.75
gold parallel his for 2.75 an other guy had one for .95

I had the base (purchased for .45 or less, years ago) I purchased the silver from him and the gold from the other guy. These are the cards you see at shows in the dime and quarter boxes. I just can not find them except here and have been watching for a long time and 1.00 is the lowest I have seen them.

I looked through his prices the other day. Has a ton of cards at 50 dollars. I have no idea or way of even trying to understand how he runs his account. What is the purpose in having a ton of cards listed that you have absolutely no chance of selling?

Some will try to rationalize it, but ultimately, there's no IQ test required to open a COMC account.

He's stated in the past that he uses 49.50 as a signpost price. If he gets in a bunch of stuff, he temporarily prices it at 49.50 and then later he can look at everything he has listed at 49.50 and change the price.

I think the signpost price used to be $99.75, which hacked people off even more. But COMC now charges people a surcharge to price anything above $49.75, so that's why it's $49.50.

It also inflates your port value and makes it look like you're a high roller on the leaderboard. I don't know if I believe his signpost price...

That's more in line with what I am thinking. Inflating the port value for whatever reason. To each his own I guess and the flip side is that having a port that size would present logistical nightmares I can't fathom with my measley 700 card port. But still, if you have the time to price them at 49.75 wouldn't you have just as much time to price them at a number they might actually sell at?

Actually, I don't think that's true. Aren't the leader boards based on the only thing less accurate than JSS's pricing . . . namely COMC SRP?

It is, but it seems like COMC substitutes your prices for SRP when a card has no SRP. If you sort your port by SRP, the top cards are likely ones without SRP.

No. The SRP of the port is the combined SRP of all cards with SRP. If a card has no SRP, it counts as 0 for the port value on the leader boards.

Good to know. Which makes me wonder why it sorts by price (if no SRP) and not SRP when you ask it to sort by SRP.
