Default new sketch card company, Viceroy Cards

I've been reading about a new sketch card company, Viceroy Cards, over on the Scoundrel Art message board. They are coming out with their first set next month, and it looks very interesting.

The sketch cards are made of an extra thick 72 pt. illustration board, and are printed on the back using a letterpress. So they have a premium, upscale look. Plus, they will come already packed in a magnetic holder which I think is a nice touch.

The artist list looks great, there are only 34 artists, including several big names, so there are pretty good odds of hitting something nice:

Adam Geyer
Amber Shelton
Autumn Frederickson
Beck Seashols
Bruce Gerlach
Charles Hall
Chris Manuel
Chris Thorne
Daniel Gorman
Dimitris Moore
Eric White
François Chartier
Fredd Gorham
Gary Kezele
Grant Gould
J Linares
James Bukauskas
Jason Keith Phillips
Jay Durden
Joseph Miller
Joshua Werner
Juan Antonio Fontanez Jr.
Katie Cook
Lynne Anderson
Michael Munshaw
Mike Vasquez
Mikey Babinski
Rhiannon Owens
Rusty Gilligan
Scott Smith
Scott Zambelli
Stephanie Swanger
Tim Proctor
Vanessa Farano

I've been talking to Ryan, one of the founders of the company, and it sounds like they have some cool things planned for the future. They are also interested in hearing from collectors, to see what we like most about sketch card sets, and for new ideas. For example, they have an idea for having tobacco size sketch cards inserted in packs as an extra hit, where it could either be a standalone mini sketch, or could be used as part of a puzzle along with the regular sized sketch card. So if you have any ideas, feel free to post them, and I will pass them along, or I am sure Ryan will answer any questions in this thread.

Here's a link to the thread over on Scoundrel Art, which includes some sample sketches:

would be cool if they add their own seal on the magnetic holders

We considered placing a seal on the magnetic holders, similar to Razor Archive or Topps Retired as examples. After getting feedback from both non-sport and sketch collectors, we determined that most collectors really enjoy looking at the detail of the artwork on sketch cards. We didn't want to make the collector choose between breaking the seal to view their sketch, or leaving it sealed and not being able to enjoy the artwork as much as they'd like.

We believe we have found a cool solution for this, but you'll have to wait until we show the final packaging to find out.

As a collector who opens every card I buy (so they can go in the albums with the other cards) the seals just gum up the top loaders so I can't use them again.

These seem great I'm looking forward to see your solution, sounds like you've got something inventive in store

With 500 packs and around 50 crytid's named on the list does this mean there will be no more than 10 of each creature made or maybe more than 10 or some creatures and less of others?

Artists were given complete control over which creatures they chose to sketch. We felt this would allow artists to gravitate towards their strengths, or take on some of the more challenging and interesting creatures in the set.

That being said, we believe most creatures will be represented in the set, along with a few others that may not have been named in that initial list.

Along with individual artist sketch counts, we'll also release a 'creature count' list. Collectors will be able to see the rarity of creatures out of the total 500 sketched. We believe some of the more obscure creatures may have only a few sketches in the entire set, making them all the more exciting to pull from a pack!

The artist and creature counts will be released once all sketches have been returned from the artists, before we randomized and place them in packs.
