Again, not saying Topps will allow it, but after talking to 2 of the largest distributors, their orders are already close to double with more requests coming
I have heard of more 20-30 case orders and again, I don't know anyone who orders that much at pre-sale
I believe you.. no question...

But both my dist ... Both card shop direct dist...

I was cut to 2 cases and 3 cases... 5 total

2 years ago i ordered 12 cases total

Although in my heart i believe the owners of these dist are getting just as much. but they are holding them back to sell weeks later for 100 a box and not direct at 63 a box or whatever it is...

It sucks but i dont blame them. they will make an extra 10 grand...

Hobby died long ago.. i get it

Complete speculation, but my guess is there is a breaker out there planning to run Heritage breaks the right way. It's pretty much the last product us rip and flippers have that hasn't been exploited.

I doubt one breaker would create a noticeable shortage. It would not surprise me, though, if a few of the bigger distributors (or one) cut a deal with Topps to get most of it leaving the others very short.

You're right. I should have pluralized it. It just seems too obvious to me that each year Heritage is a winner. How is there not a breaker out there running through hundreds of these things?

And in the meantime, any actual collectors who want to build the set themselves are going to get screwed because supply being withheld by distributors will drive up box prices.

Time to cut out the middlemen and have Topps sell direct to collectors....

Actually, I would think it makes set building easier and less expensive. The market should be completely saturated.

not a bad idea to have topps sell direct.

three boxes per order. one order per account.

Topps has no incentive to do that since it would mean they'd have to sit on millions worth of inventory long term. They are more than happy to let distributors sit on the inventory, and if distributor supply manipulation helps Topps move larger and larger print runs the following year all the better.

Also Topps DID try exactly that with 2016 Finest, and the fact that they haven't repeated it shows you how well it went financially for them.

Finest was weird though. That wasn't supposed to be direct initially, if I remember correctly. All of the sudden they told direct accounts they were holding it. I'm thinking orders were so low that it was a relatively low risk opportunity to try things out.

Oh....I know....using distributors is Topps' method for offloading the financial risk that a product will be a dud. Now if product doesn't sell, it's the distributors that lose $$$, not Topps.

But it's still horrible for the consumer/collector, because from our perspective, distributors add zero value, and in fact now are becoming tax extractors by virtue of their ability to withhold supply.

If Topps can sell Heritage direct to dealers at $63 a box, they should be able to sell direct to the consumer at the same price.

True. At the time 2015 Finest was below cost even with KB so not a ton of interest in 2016 to start with.

Still they seem to have no interest in doing it again.

In 2017 Topps did offer a small amount of most Hobby products on their website at release. It's possible they will be increasing the amounts this year.

Because most break customers don't have the patience to sit through a case of Heritage done the right way looking for SPs and variations. And most breakers don't want to spend the time sorting hundreds of boxes of Heritage base to ship out.

Can Ohtani be in this or does he have to play a major league game first?

I imagine they would save him for High #, to help move that product.
