So I doubt there will be very many Topps Tigers cards to collect this year. Miggy will make, maybe, 1 out of 5 insert sets, maybe. Fulmer maybe 1 for 8. Who knows.
But the Tigers seem to have produced something cool to collect: That Freehan one is darn cool. Very Grimshaw-esque. The Horton is a nod to WRIF, the 70s, and some soul-y things, all at the same time. A few more details here: https://www.blessyouboys.com/2018/3/...m-vintage-1968 |

Belated effort to make the point that another Detroit pro franchise gets a raw deal on a high-profile controversial call.

Didn't Megatron eventually suffer from a second such call a few years later?
This is the most boring Opening Weekend for the Tigers ever, even though that first game was sorta hella exciting with all the Pitchers struggling to figure out how to grip the all-new, tight, slippery MLB baseball in their cold, cold hands. Ahh well, I will be content with seeing some Michigan Basketball .... in April! |

At least Miggy looks good enough they might be able to trade him eventually

That’s a possibility. We already should be 2-3 if MLB hadn’t screwed us out of that first win.

was just checking on the Tigers.com page on the status of the rain delay tonight
and discovered that not surprisingly, the DIA has a 1968 exhibit this year, which includes lots of baseball cards. a nice collection of graded Kaline cards, and also it looks like an exhibit of a T206 collection, possibly the one that was first curated and displayed at The Met (? or maybe MoMA or maybe Whitney, I forget) in NYC a few years ago. Possibly just the local Michigan collector's T206 cards. If I stumble upon a chance to get close to Detroit this summer, I will definitely check it out, mostly to see all those T206 cards in one place. As I type, the story is on the front page on https://www.mlb.com/tigers but eventually that will fade and I am sure the DIA webpage will have the details. |

So I liked that Rookie Catcher - Greiner - that was up in Detroit until yesterday, with Cabrera's imminent return. That 3 Catcher line-up Gardenhire ran out a few times, with McCann @ DH and Hicks @ 1B, was unique.
I think Avila has a new chip in front of him on the table. Which is good, because otherwise the Utility Parade continues. Gardenhire is doing pretty good with that Parade, as he always has in his career. But a Utility heavy line-up is a .500 line-up. (4 games under now; high water mark on the way, perhaps) Who's Your Tiger for the obligatory All-Star roster spot? I think it will be Jimenez. |

I could see Castellanos making the All Star team if he keeps raking. Jimenez has been great, and I could see him there, too, but not too many set-up guys get the call. |

On the offensive side, I think Castellanos is the only option.
As for the arms, I'm thinking either Boyd or Jimenez. As of today, I would select Castellanos.

Nick’s success at the plate this year has snuck up on me and he has been totally raking the last few days - good call.
I don’t normally have Homers in the eyes but Nick’s total (6 after tonight) might keep him under the radar a little, these days. But he is 2nd in AL in AVG right now, and about 15th in AL in OPS - but Candelario is ahead of him there. 6-2 on the current home stand - will be some interesting games coming up vs. the Yankees, Red Sox, and Indians all in a row next week. |

Been pleasantly surprised this season by the team's play (aside from this 2 game skid to the Reds..)
Miggy being out for the rest of the year is depressing. It would have taken a lot to make the postseason, like a Miguel Cabrera 2nd half power surge (as well as everyone else keeping up their play). Now, we have no shot most likely. Unless Stewart gets the call up and is the next big star right away. So prob not happening. All in all, been solid to watch this season. I know many fans are disappointed we aren't losing to get a better draft pick, but I think in baseball that matters the least. Half the first round picks never make the majors anyways.

Who is this Pitcher:
https://www.topps.com/2018-topps-bas...r-d-to-99.html Seriously, Topps? Would anyone buy this at $2.49? |

LoL, I had to look the guy up. It’s amazing Topps couldn’t find a better choice than a guy who was released two weeks into spring training. <\sarcasm>

Now with 11 straight losses, firing the pitching coach, Al can sit back and say: "Good...GOOOD! Let the tank begin!!"

This team is finally playing like their talent level would suggest. Gardenhire squeezed more than I could have imagined out of the first two months.
I'm still disgusted they didn't trade Fulmer over the winter when his value was probably very high.

Yankees still scouting Fulmer. His trade value was higher last July than it was in the off-season with the lingering ???s from the Sept. injury.
I would imagine the Tigers have had some scouts in Scranton & Trenton. But I expect Liriano & Fiers to go and Al will think he can keep Fulmer and get lucky off the scrap heap again, plus he has a lot of high-round Pitching draft picks on the way. A Catcher might go to, but we still need a whole lotta new peeps. |

There is a rumor going around that the padres are showing interest in Fulmer.
Id love to see a bidding war break out between two teams with deep farm systems to obtain Fulmer.

Might be a minor bidding war over Fiers, too.

Watched the last few games and I noticed something. Outside of Castellanos, nobody is hitting above .280. Miggy is in second place with .299. He is obviously out the rest of the year. After that you got Hicks at .278 and Iggy at .272. I don't have any confidence that either of those will hold and probably will dip in the .260 range. With all this bad hitting and we are almost dead last in homers. So, it isn't a rip for the fences kind of team either. Not too much to get excited about on the field right now. Maybe Goodrum? I am still on the fence with Candelario.

Sept 1 tryouts still a long way away.
Goodrum might be ultimately more productive than Romine was. I think we will just have to jeep Iglesias. Though I have been wondering lately what his hitting stats might look like without April included. I’d imagine JV will put a few extra mph on his pitches to V-Mart tomorrow. |
