Default My new Collection 'show and tell style'

I have changed my collecting direction, no more MODERN!. I'm done wasting my money on that (but yes I still love me some shiney )stuff. I will still pick up key RC's here and there but that's it! My new focus is VINTAGE, my focus will be all the cards I loved as a poor kid. The cards I only dreamed of having are only now on my radar.

I stopped collecting in 1991 at 14, wish I hadn't I missed on the whole insert craze lol. I also love the eighties cards I grew up on, I'll add some background to the cards as I add them here.

The first 'big time' card I bought from Dave Suggs card shop, I remember my grandma took me there after I had earned enough money to buy the card. I had been eying it forever in the case. I think it was around $13 and change plus the $2+ she paid for the 1/2" four screw case.

It was included in one of my early PSA subs and will be in my collection forever.

Good story, and mine is eerily similar, only I am about 10 years older and I had some great high $$$ stuff back in the early 80s with my father. That was sold off long ago, and I started effectively from scratch late last year.
I am pretty much in the same boat as you, I will be keeping my new stuff down to little or nothing, and the vast majority of what I buy will be vintage, graded vintage.

I do have some nice David Johnson rookie stuff, as I think he is a Hell of an investment, but I pretty much am sitting on all I want of him.

I picked up a '62 Clemente, PSA 7.5, I mentioned and posted it in the " vintage pick ups" thread that Big35Hurt started.
That was my first vintage snag, and I have been looking at a couple other items.
I will start a similar thread soon, when I get my next purchase.

Good stuff on the Largent, and I look forward to seeing the new items you get and post about.

I've switched my focus to vintage as well for the same reasons. I'll still buy a few modern cards here and there of players I like, but vintage is the way to go IMO. I've even enjoyed buying cards that were from well before I was born including T206's.

Your Largent card is gorgeous. 1977 Topps football were the first cards I collected. I don't think I ever pulled one of these in a pack, but I love the design and especially like the cards that have the 1000-yard rusher logo on it. The Walter Payton card from this year is my all-time favorite football card.

Looks as if we are going to have a lot of fun getting into this vintage cardboard.

I'll do three more Largent RC's then move to something else.

Two of these were raw eBay finds, tough to find any raw w/o centering and corner issues. And one I won in an eBay auction.

Two cards just in today.

First up, a 'Night Train' RC he has to be in the top 10 for nastiest players ever! Also had 14 picks in his rookie season in only 12 games. A very sharp for a PSA 5, some snow on the left image but overall I'm very happy how good it looks in hand.

Next, I just love Joe Morgan he was so good as an announcer. Plus he was one of the best second baseman ever. I was able to land this gem quality card because of a little ink PD on the front. Very sharp with vibrant colors.

Not a new card for me but a nicely centered 70 Topps Morgan.

Lol, I think you are stuck with me. I have a big list of cards I'm going after, I think it's going to take awhile .

61 Fleer for today's cards (there are so many vintage BSK cards on my list I'd like to add). I have been working on two vintage sets the last couple of years. A 48 Leaf boxing set and a 61 fleer BSK set I am only six cards short to finishing the Fleer set, but I am now going to break it up and just keep the cards that are going to fit into my new vintage PC. I'll use the funds to pick up more vintage I'm looking for down the road.

First this Bill Russell I really like this card, the centering is incredible for his card in the set. If you wanted to get a Russell card into your PC and don't want to fork out a ton for his RC, this is the card to get IMO. This is a great card to display as colors just pop like many 61 Fleer.

Next up is a Fleer Lenny Wilkins RC. All I can say about this card is it looks amazing, every time I take it out I can't believe it's a PSA 6. I'm going to add a back scan of this card also.

Love the 61 Fleer cards! I just picked up my 5th Wilt! All are graded 4, three PSA and one each BVG & SGC

If you break up, let me know if you are letting go of any of the bigger names from that set.

Sounds awesome, I'd like to see your scans. I'll let you know when I decide on the 61 Fleer.

Today's addition is a PSA 3 Otto Graham RC. I do like that this card has a nice clear image and none of that double die effect. I think this might be my favorite football card I own. I can't wait for tomorrow big pickup coming in (it might beat out the Graham)!

I'll add these two from the pickup thread.

Good mail day today, 1957 Topps Unitas RC. This card has snow and a very small surface wrinkle above his left hand (very nice for a 4 I think). The snow isn't to bad in hand my scanner does magnify it though. I really like the centering plus the corners are very sharp, not bad for a 60 year old card.

You have a great eye for centering and those '61 Fleer Basketball are really, really tough to find centered. Nice work!

Thank you, I don't have that many 61 Fleer centered like that. I really don't think they look that bad off centered, maybe because of the box like design or we are so used to seeing them off centered.

This card was already in my PC, it's by far my favorite baseball card. At some point I'd like to have this in a higher grade maybe around a PSA 7 (I'm cool with this though). I don't have any other 53 Bowman color cards yet, but I think it's the best looking vintage set around. This card to me is a work of art, the type of card I like to have on display.

Big mail day today, this is one of those cards where shipping was delayed. It was well worth the wait though. An absolutely DEAD centered Mean Joe Greene RC! The card has what I would call a refractor line running from left to right above his eyebrows. It's hard to stop looking at it, I just love this card design from 71. Scan up!

I just landed this Bradshaw RC looks great next to the Greene! The card is almost dead centered (just a hair high), it does have a small PD or stain on the right side. Plus the registration is killer the scratches are on the inner sleeve and the case.

I had an awesome vintage mail day today. I'll start with this Brock RC, I'm very happy I added this card. Looks amazing for a 4.5.

Next, a very centered Deacon Jones RC. This card is so hard to find centered, it will be off to PSA as soon as they have a decent special. I'm thinking in the 4-5 range.

I also added a Roger Staubach RC for a few dollars over grading fees.

I have always loved these 1980 Topps All Pro Cards.

Some great cards here ! How is that 59 Maris not a higher grade ?

Your lower grade stars have great eye appeal, I look to pick up vintage like that too.

The 61 fleer look great, I remember both of them playing, used to listen to Celtics game on a transistor radio under my bedcovers when I was young. ( yes, I'm that old)

Nice collection being built here.
