Default What should the Vikings do at quarterback?

BR - Vikings Face Unprecedented QB Conundrum with Keenum, Bradford and Bridgewater

I'm going to say keep Bridgewater and draft another QB.

Edit: Poll is up and contains just about every permutation of the situation. (Not every one of them, but most.)

I am kind of in agreement with this. This team is built to win now, so they need to put all of their chips in and go for it. Amazingly they could return all defensive starters for a 5th year - I won't write them off for having one bad game (as effing horrendous as it was). I don't trust Teddy or Bradford at all, and Case was an inspiration, but do we want to commit to him long term for even half of what Cousins will get? Not sure I do.

Case Keenum made me a life long fan, but he isn't going to be worth the type of money him and his agent are going to demand, especially based on one successful season in the league. Pat Shurmur made him successful by catering to his strengths and masking his weaknesses. I think Keenum ends up staying here, but for the money we will be paying him, this isn't what I want.

Bridgewater is as good as gone, he wants to be a starter in the league and the Vikings aren't going to pay him and guarantee him the starting job when its unproven how well his knee has recovered. My prediction has been he will be going to Arizona.

Bradford is 100% gone. He isn't going to get a starting gig either unless he goes to the Jets. My predictions of this has been he will follow Shurmur to the Giants and be their backup

If I'm the Vikings, I go all in on Cousins. We need someone stable at QB that has the capability to throw 30+ TDs. Grab Cousins, keep Sloter as the 2nd string and draft a QB or sign a QB to be the 3rd string. Or if you can't get Cousins, let Sloter be the starter to start the year and see what he does (I'm sure people will laugh at this idea). Sign a veteran backup in case he struggles. The reason I say this is we haven't had a franchise QB since Fran Tarkenton, but instead just a bunch of stop gap QBs. Try to groom Sloter into a franchise QB.

I voted to keep Bradford and draft a QB, possibly sign another veteran backup.

There is no guarantee Keenum can duplicate this season with Shurmer now in NY. Bridgewater has proven nothing to show he deserves the starting job or can stay healthy enough to keep it.

Bradford has health issues too, but as a veteran could be a solid bridge QB to whomever is drafted.

Seven votes in and every single one of them is for a different option.

Can't imagine what the Vikings front office thinks.

No but it can't hurt to try. They can't franchise him so offer him a better defense and more money.

What do you think Bridgewater or Keenum would come back for salary wise. I would keep whichever one is cheaper (probably Bridgewater) and draft a QB. I am not paying Keenum 20 million. I will let some other team take on the next Osweiler contract.

The thing is, Bradford also only had success due to a Shurmur offense. I think with the limitations he has that I'd rather keep Keenum or Bridgewater over him (and I realize Keenum was also a product of the Shurmur offense). Like I said above, I'd rather go all in on Cousins or just let Sloter start the 1st game and sign a veteran backup QB in case things turn south.

Teddy will only get $3-$5 million/year, Keenum is going to be getting $18-$20 million/year. This is just my guess, however.

Offer Brees a deal and if he’s a no, go after Cousins and keep Keenum as a backup.

Cousins could make this offense pretty dang good... We already have an elite defense, if we can get a proven good QB, that would make our offense great and our team would be hard to stop

I think the issue is that both Keenum and Teddy are going to want more money than we will be willing to give. I'd love to have both of them, but if we have a shot at getting Cousins, at least one of them will have to go

Only two real choices here: Cousins or Keenum. I would offer Cousins $100 million for five years. I would only offer Keenum $60 million over four years. No matter which one I land, I'm drafting another guy at quarterback in round two, seeing that I'm mostly set on defense. Keenum will probably want more than $60 million over four years, but I wouldn't budge more than 7 or 8 million more, seeing that he hasn't been consistent until 2017 and a few games with the Rams. Quarterback, cornerback, and backup running back are all the Vikes have left to shore up.

Vikings are fine at HB with Cook & Murray. Would like to see a scat back drafted though since McKinnon is going to leave.

Keenum is going to be starting somewhere in the league. Zero chance he takes the backup gig here after starting the entire season

Kind of what I am thinking as well. Bridgewater might want a few million more per year, but not much. He is worth keeping at that price. You can draft a QB and let those two battle it out for the starting spot. If Bridgewater is too much damaged goods, sign a veteran on the cheap until the rookie is ready. Spend the extra QB money on filling out some holes on your team.

I don't think the Vikings draft a QB this year honestly. I think they believe in Kyle Sloter as a backup at the minimum. Whatever QB of the three (if any) we keep, will start.

You're one of the very few people I've ever read that doesn't like PA. He is one of the best in the business! Obviously he has bias because he is the Vikings announcer, but you'll never find another radio broadcaster that gets just as excited for opposing teams TDs as he does for his own.
