Default 2013 Topps Mars Attacks Invasion trading cards

I just stumbled upon this while looking at some other Mars Attacks cards. Now I have to save my money until October.

"To celebrate the 50th anniversary of its most infamous product, Topps is busting out the stops with an all-new Mars Attack trading cards series (coming out this October), and I'm happy to report that the art is excellent!"

huh... I thought there was a thread started on this set already a while back. Oh well... I've got a PNSCS promo available for trade, maybe two if I decide not to collect. I probably won't collect, but the art does look damn good

This was the first I've seen of it, but the linked article is dated April 30th, so I probably just missed the other thread.

Either way, I'm really excited. Should be a fun break.

Ehhh... it may not have been here or maybe I just discussed it in a side conversation with Ted or Bucky or at the Philly NSCS. I scrolled back quite a few pages looking for the artist commission thread and I don't remember seeing it along the way.

We will also be showing off sketches from the new set regularly throughout the summer, along with first looks at finished painted cards and chase cards.

You can follow on facebook for the exclusive "sneak peek" campaign.

www.facebook.com/MarsAttacks

So far we've shown 2 new sketches by Greg Staples and Rafael Gallur. We'll be debuting the first sketch from JOE JUSKO tomorrow.

I had a thread about it a while ago, but there wasn't much in it.

Wish I was working on base art. Let's see that Jusko guy's sketch cards go for $350+!!

We haven't started sketch cards yet. To clarify, the sketches we are showing on facebook are the development work on base card art.

NAR! is more than welcome to be a part of our sketch cards, though!

Well, that's SRP, hopefully they will sell for lower than that. But I wonder what the SRP was on MA Heritage?

Well, there are more guaranteed hits per box than the Heritage product. But the price does seem a little steep. Then again, I've become a cheapskate lately so YMMV

not sure? Topps was selling the Retail & Alternate boxes for $50.00 and the average case price online was between $320.00-$350.00 for an 8 box case. @$40.00-$43.95 per box.

This set ain't no Walking Dead...the "Mars Attacks" market is nowhere near as hot as the price they are suggesting.

What about every set that Crypto puts out at the same SRP - is Alphas the same as Walking Dead? That's not a fair comparison.

If the value is there in the content, then it's worth it. I have to imagine commissioning all new artwork for the entire set is costly, and they're doing patches and medallions.... this already sounds like more content than Heritage.

Plus, this really is an entirely different animal than last year's set. Just the same subject matter.

Hi Ted, Can you explain what the patches and medallions are concerning this set? I do not know what they are? You have valid points, but the jump in list was surprising.

It looks like Topps is trying to increase the price across the board on their lower end stuff. Brand New Series 1 went for like $360 per 8 box case, Brand New Series 2 was about $400 per 8 box case, and Brand New Series 3 is up to $450 per 8 box case (release this fall).

I don't know either, but I'm guessing along the lines of the Galactic Files patches. Maybe patches from both Martian and human forces? I suppose the medallions will be similar, but on resin or something heavier.

I believe MSRP on Heritage was somewhere between 50-60. So Invasion is certainly not double the last release.

Keep in mind also that the bulk of this new series is comprised of all new hand-painted art-- nearly 90 new pieces. The fact is, to commission such work is not inexpensive. Considering that Heritage was 80% reissue, we were able to keep the cost very consumer friendly.

Also consider there will now be TWO guaranteed hits per box, in addition to the all-new art, plus a variety of chase cards, rare subsets, and the usual sketches and printing plates.

Parallels are also going to be much more interesting this time around. We'll announce all the details soon, probably in the next few weeks.
