If you simply look at the USFL franchise locations for the 1985 season,
you can see that, for this purpose, they were focusing on non-NFL cities at the time.
It was the nfl using other millionaires to find out where expansion would work. The other usfl owners knew it too. It was purely an nfl experiment that lead to the Jaguars and Panthers and to see how much people really liked football in general, out of season

What if the Vikings don't trade the farm for Herschel Walker? The Cowboys probably don't become the dynasty they were.

A lot of the great ifs are in this thread already. One I want stated is What if Irsay paid Faulk how many rings would Peyton, Faulk and the Colts have now?

I haven't gone over the thread, and I can't it imagine not being mentioned, but I'll just add my 2 cents, and say Bo Jackson not ending his career early is a very, very easy answer here. Just wanted to contribute my opinion on a huge one. Too bad though, very sad.

What if Nate Kaeding didn't miss so many playoff field goals. Dude was automatic in regular season, but blew it in the postseason.

Wha?? That's a nice theory, but it doesn't make alot of sense in full context.
Why would NFL owners allow their own "experimental" league to encourage free agency and ultimately push player salaries through the roof ??

What if the Patriots of the early-2000s didn't video their opponents illegally?

What if

Lewis Billups intercepts that pass
Walsh replaces Paul Brown instead of being passed over
TD does nt blow his knee out chasing a Brian Griese interception return
Doug Williams is ruled to have fumbled in XXII with Denver recovering for TD and 17-0 lead in SuperBowl XXII, instead whistle blew despite not being down by contact

You think billionaires/ millionaires are surprised by anything?
They already knew it would happen.

I wanted the Jacksonville Bulls to merge. That and the Michigan Panthers were the greatest helmets ever!

What if Earnest Byner doesn't fumble?

What if Roger Craig doesn't fumble?

What if the USFL had the financial support of a MAJOR TV network ? Look back at how many HOFers and ALL PRO players as well as all 3 Heisman winners went to that league. Before the USFL, Owners were negotiating contracts that today's Long Snappers would laugh at for future Hall members.

What if the Cowboys beat Green Bay either in 67 or 68 Ice Bowl and represent the NFL in either or both first Super Bowls, what would the trophy be called, what would Lombardi and Landry legacies be along with the impact on revision of players involved - Meredith HoF?

What if the Colts kept Elway?

What if teams didn't pass on Marino? Steelers?

What if the Falcons didn't trade Favre to the Packers?

What if Tampa didn't trade Steve Young to the 49ers?

What if Bo never got hurt and played football fulltime?

What if Olindo Mare would have missed the game winning field goal (Score was 24-22) against the Broncos in Denver in 2002? Would I have still gotten popcorn thrown at me?

What if Beckett and the card companies would correctly distinguish cards, Is a Autographed Sticker actually a Autographed card or a card with a stickered autograph ? Game Used and Event Worn are distinguished.

If the Cowboys win either of those early Super Bowls Meredith probably makes it to the HOF along with Howley, Andrie, and Jordan.

Another packer nightmare...What if Brandon Bostick blocks like he was instructed to do and lets the hands team recover the onside kick in Seattle in 2015. Same game, what if Morgan Burnett continues to return his interception with the whole field open in front of him rather than laying down and stopping the clock at midfield. Same game...what if McCarthey does something other than call a run the ball up the gut 3 straight times late in the 4th quarter. Of course, fast forward one game and what if Seattle runs Marshawn Lynch on 4th and 1 like everyone under the sun expected them to do.

What if Dix actually knocks down the 2 point conversion instead of just watching the guy catch it.

What if Jim Carey never appeared on Saturday Night Live?

His stint as a help with the Dolphins may have never taken place?

Packman80, what if the Packers would have gone to the officials and required "M. Lynch" to change cleats "GOLD" to what the rules state, therefore possibly missing the overtime drive? Packers could have challenged at any time and Lynch would have had to change cleats.
