Default Prizm prices tanking

It doesnt seem to me like buying the retail or hobby is even worth it based on how pricing is starting to go. It was a no brainer in the beginning but prices have come down a ton. I know they usually go down some but I have never really paid attention to the prices from maybe the first week, to 10 days later. Its quite the drop off and kind of takes the fun away from retail. I know that is just how it goes, but it kind of stinks LOL

Anyone remember the 90 Jordan fleer base psa 10's going for $3-400? Good times.

Buy high ---> sell low.

It was a no-brainer this was going to happen. A flood of retail drowning prices of cards with a population of 500++ that were over-inflated and hyped up = lower prices.

Is this trickling down to previous prizm years or just this year? Because the entire Prizm landscape just seems absolutely ridiculous.

there's so many parallels - I don't think that's helping.

Happens with every release, every sport.

Hype rules the first week or two.

Product floods the market, depressing prices.

Prices creep back up as product dries up.

This is not really a new phenomenon.

Ben Simmons silver rookies were in the 150-200 range when retail was out in stores, Prizm will dry up and prices will go back up for players that deliver. The only difference is there are quite a few players that started out above that Simmons price, 4 or 5 guys aren't going to be 300+ dollar raw silvers down the road.

Most everyone that buys these silver prizm rookies are holding them or at least getting them graded to sell later.

OP you must be new to basketball and how prizm works. Prices always go down after release as a ton is broken. Then prices go back up as product becomes scarce. Go ahead and panic and sell me all your prizm for cheap. Yeah that’s what you should do.

yeah I know its not a new phenomenon, I was just surprised at how fast it happened and to the extent, probably because it was a bigger deal so more people bought it and then more people tried to sell.

I am a little bit, I was aware they went down, just figured it would take a little longer, I didnt realize it was basically the second it hit retail, but I guess it was such a hot product that everyone got it so quickly and started undercutting the market.

Prices also started out way higher than any other Prizm release in the history of the brand. They were destined to drop hard.

Man, even sealed tanked last year. Or it never took off (until recently) at least for retail. Hobby did creep up from about $100-110 at release to almost $200.

Like I've said probably 5 times now, retail boxes were $50-60 for a while. Blasters wouldn't move at $20 or even less per by the case. I also bought multiple cello/value boxes for under $100, as low $80 I think.

Yep....

I remember the same thing happening last year.

Will be sure to remember the same strategy I used to pick up my PSA 10 Prizm Silver at the absolute rock bottom price it's been sold for on eBay.

I think it will be determined by how many times it is restocked at target/walmart. if it is one and done, it will be able to hold a good price, if it is sitting around like football and restocked every week for a month, it will probably not be great

Not to much. I think prizm can be divided in to the first 3 years and most recent 3 years. For 2012-2104 silver prizm were very rare. 2015 onward the print run seemed to skyrocket. kat, porzingis and Simmons all seem to be off their peaks but that has more to do with their play than anything else imo.

it will be one and done for sure in many places, distributors are buying the retail to hike up the prices.

Pretty much this. Then stuff slowly dries up and as the class develops the people scramble to find prizm silvers and up of the top rcs.

Unless it's come out, I can't see WHY Panini will short print this latest release. It's one of their hottest brands, good rookie crop, and the parallels folks want aren't even numbered! It's a win, win, win, win for them. Slap stickers on the numbered parallels that need them, and roll on.

It's why looking back, when a strong rookie class happened, we saw the brands cranked out, the boxed sets, the goofy brands (Matrix, ESPN, Etc). If Target and Wal Mart have parallel exclusives.....every store will stock them thru the hobby vendor. You might not "see it".....but that's because guys on here are buying every damn box, hanger possible in a single swoop! (This means you Randy) hahahaha. And some hobby shops might scoop them up for their shops also. This will not be short printed folks.....

The wise people will be buying the, now, underpriced silver prizms and continue to buy the numbered parallels in time for the January price increase to sell!
