Default The Everything Bob Dylan Thread

He's talked about enough on here (albeit mostly about his voice..and mostly talked about by me) but since he's being awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature, I'm here to talk about his greatness

The Nobel is just one of many awards he has won over the years (Grammys, Academy Award, Golden Globe, Presidential Medal of Freedom, etc.) and I for one am glad he's being awarded for his work. So let's discuss his music, voice (I'm open to criticism), concerts, bootlegs, and everything Bobby D.

Here are some pics to start us off!
In front of the new painting in the cities. An artist and his crew finished this up last year and was amazing to watch and even more amazing seeing it in person:

Me and his bassist Tony Garnier (just finished buying him a beer and smoking a stogie with him..super nice guy):

In front of his childhood home in Duluth during Dylan Days. Duluth has held it the last 2 years and it has been a blast:

Buddy and I in front of childhood home in Hibbing during Dylan Days:

Someone else tell me about how awesome Dylan is..please. Also, tomorrow is officially Bob Dylan Day in MN so celebrate by listening to some of his music! Or if you hate his voice, read his book

Was never able to actually meet him (he's kind of a hermit when it comes to his fans, after a death threat and some serious stalkers years ago). He did a 3 night show at the Orpheum Theatre in Minneapolis a couple years ago and I went to all 3.

The last night, instead of going in early, I hung out at the bar patio next door and saw Dylan and his crew walking into the theatre. I yelled his name and he stopped and waved. That's as close as I've gotten, and it was awesome

Chumlee from "Pawn Stars" got to meet him. Dylan even autographed an vintage album for him.
Lucky Chumlee...

Dylan still rules.
Happy Bob Dylan Day!

I'm the offspring of Hyde and Jackie, they decided to leave that storyline out though

Think my favorite Bob Dylan song is Shelter From The Storm. I love listening to vinyl and don't have anything from him in my collection yet. Any opinion on a must have of his?

There's a carpet and drape joke somewhere in there

Other than the obvious records (61 Revisited, Blood on The Tracks, Freewheelin), I love Tempest. It's his newest original record and one of the best sounding vinyls I have.

Has a 14 minute song about the Titanic (Tempest)with a great violin in it, a nice tribute to John Lennon (Roll on John), and the opening song called Duquesne Whistle is such a great sounding record. The band is top notch.

It's a record where the voice throws a lot of people away from it. Love the song's intro turning into an orchestrated rocker almost
Here's the music video:

The footage of him singing that at the Newport Folk Festival is my favorite. He gets booed off stage after going electric for the first time, then comes out and does an acoustic version of this song. Lyrics are clearly a send off to someone or something which many claim is directed at the folk scene in general (strike another match, go start anew..and it's all over now baby blue).

The audience didn't even pay attention to the lyrics, which he was basically telling the folk scene he's going to start playing the music he wants. No one even realized it. They just saw an acoustic guitar and started cheering

I totally want one of these:

Bob Dylan Mann Music Center Concert Performance Baseball Trading Card | eBay

But I'm not sure I'm $15+ worth of totally.

Any ideas on somewhere else to get one of these? I'm going to Philly for Christmas and might poke around a little.

Although I understand it is the name of the venue, as I've been there, I love how it just kind of implies that Bob Dylan is the Mann. Reminds me of when he used to open shows with "I Am The Man, Thomas" which is a gospel song but I always enjoy re-imagining it as a James Brown song sung by Bob instead. More fun that way.

These are all pretty cool:

Hear Bob Dylan's New Country Cover of Frank Sinatra - Rolling Stone

New album of covers from the American songbook
I know it's not new Dylan, but the band sounds really good doing these covers so I'm excited

And I got my Bday present from the wife this year:

Finally got around to watching the Tony Bennett 90th birthday special and was really impressed with Dylan's Once Upon A Time.

Was pretty impressed with all the performances, to be honest. Star-studded, as they say, and not a lip-sinc in the bunch. Andrea Bocelli (sp?) was a standout, but wow, he did not look healthy.

Happy birthday Athey49!
