Default ***Official 2018 Angels Baseball Thread***

Notice I didn't put Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in the thread's title? Lol, did that on purpose since the Angels don't play in Los Angeles or even in Los Angeles county. The "Los Angeles" is only used for "marketing purposes" as Arte Moreno [Angels owner] would say. Ok, now that I have that out of the way... lets talk Angels.

Billy Eppler made a few pick ups this off season, none larger than Ohtani. Here's how I predict the field to look.

1B- Albert Pujols / Luis Valvuena
2B - Ian Kinsler
SS - Andreton Simmons
3B - Zack Cozart
LF - Juston Upton
CF - Mike Trout
RF - Kole Calhoun
DH - Shohei Ohtani
C - Carlos Maldonado

That was the easy part... now the pitching lol

Here's who I see making the starting rotation, given the Angels say they may go to a 6 man rotation to accommodate the new arrival of Ohtani.

Garret Richards
Matt Shoemaker
Tyler Skaggs
Andrew Heaney
Parker Bridwell
Shohei Ohtani

Pitching will dictate how the season goes... the offense is there, as long as the pitching can keep the opposition down, the Angels have a shot. There is no way they dethrone the Astros...but as long is the pitching is decent, I see them getting a wild card spot.

Here's what they have in the farm that could possibly make an impact in a September call up.
Jo Adell
Griffin Canning
Brandon Marsh
Jahmai Jones
Jaime Barria

I will try to update this during the offseason and spring training as news worthy things happen and will try to update it after every game once the season is here. Feel free to talk Angels baseball here

The bullpen is the big question. Johnson is our closer this year?

I think it's between him, Parker, and Bedrosian. Probably whoever performs best during spring training

The offense has been bolstered there’s no debating that, I wonder how that improves Trout’s runs and RBI’s

What we really need is for Pujols to break his leg so that Cron can fill in.

Looks like a fantasy team on offense, but aside from Maldonado, Simmons, Trout and maybe Calhoun they could be very suspect defensively. Lots of questions with the pitching as well.

I don't know, 3 of the absolute best at the "important" positions. And adequate in most other spots...I don't see the defense being that big of an issue.

If Trout bats 2nd, I think his runs would go up with Upton and Ohtani batting behind him.

Can Pujols retire already? Lol. He ssidnhe woukd retire early and break his contract if he wasn't performing well anymore, well, he needs to retire. I'dhate to see such a good player retire after playing numerous miserable seasons.

As far as Cron, I'm hoping they trade him for some bullpen help. Word is... they are waiting for spring training to see how Pujols is healthwise and then the GM will make a choice whether to keep or trade Cron.

I think they're ok defensively. 1st base will probably be the biggest concern defensively

2018 Angels wish list;

1.) Pujols - please retire, please retire, please retire.
2.) See #1

End of list

Very very strong defense up the middle with Maldonado, Kinsler, Simmons, and Trout. They may make the pitching staff look good.

Pitching staff actually isn't bad, they're just brittle. No doubt though, the defense looks to be fantastic and the staff should be excited. Hopefully they'll get to admire it from the field and not the trainer's room.

My questions are who’s batting lead off and the back end of the pen.
Picking up Rivera today solidifies the catcher spot as a whole.
So far our off season moves look solid, Only time will tell...
Would love to see a couple more RPs inked.

BA released the Angels top 10 prospects, they are as follows

1. Shohei Ohtani, RHP/DH
2. Jo Adell, OF
3. Jahmai Jones, OF
4. Kevin Maitan, SS
5. Brandon Marsh, OF
6. Jaime Barria, RHP
7. Chris Rodriguez, RHP
8. Matt Thaiss, 1B
9. Griffin Canning, RHP
10. Michael Hermosillo, OF

I think Ohtani is too high on the list. I would put him #6. Sure he's put up great stats in Japan but the talent is inferior in Japan as to what we have here. Who knows how Ohtani will fare here in the US. I wish him luck, he and the Angels need it.

Got 3 outfielders ranked pretty high. Could a future outfield of Trout/Adell/Jones/Marsh be in the works, similar to Anderson/Erstad/Salmon from years past?

Pretty excited for the team and hope these rooks prosper in the minor leagues and come up to the bigs soon

Moving day was today, anybody make it?

They had a huge yard sale with items 70% off, Chuck Finley, Jim Abbott, and Tyler Skaggs were signing autographs for free, alot of spin the wheel games.

Alot of people with Ohtani jerseys.

Looking forward to this season

I went down there and my son enjoyed it. Wished we had arrived earlier and waited in the yard sale line. It was really long. People had bags filled with past promo items as they left.

It was a great offer. You pay $10 and they give you a bag, you can fill that bag with as many leftover promo items as you can.

Jahmai Jones invited to spring training. Probably their biggest prospect name to get invited
