Default Jordan Rookie - How would BGS grade this Card?

This card is currently in a PSA holder.

Please share what you believe BGS would grade this? Please include subgrades.

Thanks for your input!

my question is why even try to get it into a BGS holder? and you know they take the back into account when grading too right?

You're right, forgot about the back (attached). I just want opinions on what you believe it would grade at. Thanks!

I believe the value the PSA holder would be higher either way. The card appears pretty sharp from what I see. Bottom left corner looks a little soft on the back. why not reveal the grade? we aren't graders, and it can be tough to grade a card thats not in hand since we can't see surface defects and wrinkles if there are any. I mean asking for sub grades may be asking a bit much from a forum of amateur "graders". you're gonna get a whole range of grades.

I am purposely not revealing the grade to take away any potential bias from seeing the grade first.

well hiding the grade and also the card being slabbed already may also be hiding if theres a factor in this card we can't see, like a surface issue. so it wouldn't be possible for anyone to give you a BGS surface grade idea.

beautiful card! my guess is psa has this in an 8 holder with that soft corner and back centering. bgs would probably grade it at a 9 unless there is an undisclosed surface issue. id prefer my #57 in a psa 8 over a bgs 9. if this is psa 9 it would be foolish to remove it for a bgs grade.

Thank you for your input. I will reveal the actual PSA grade in the next couple of days after hopefully receiving some additional input from members.

Regards,
Joe

I would expect the grades to be similar. Centering is the grade that is the hardest because it doesn't seem to be universally applied. I would think the BGS centering to be 7.5-8.5 and the overall grade to be .5 higher because I don't see anything corners, surface or edges that should be under a 9.

Wow, that is a surprising grade for centering. Anybody agree or disagree?

I agree you can just tell just ya the grade now. Iíll stand by my position that regardless of grade it should remain as is.

I would say 8.5.

I'll guess the PSA grade is 7. And would guess BGS would grade it an 8.5 (8/8.5/8.5/9).

Also guessing an 8.5 is what BGS would grade that at

Assuming the surfaces are free of problems my guess is PSA graded this 7.5 and it might get an 8 from Beckett. I feel it is a very well centered card. Bottom right corner will be the biggest obstacle with the lower left being the next "problem". Hard to tell actually just how much wear is going on in the lower right.

Centering 9
Corners 9.5
Edges 9.5
Surface 9.5

BGS 9.5

I bet itís in a PSA 9 holder.

I'll go with 8.5 centering, 9 corners, 9.5 edges and 8.5 surface for an overall high end 8.5.

It has at least 3 small white print dots, one above "M" in Michael and 2-3+ (hard to tell what's a dot and what is scanner stuff) in the top right blue border. Plus there's always the potential for some mystery down grade from BGS on surface.

BGS 9 sells for 1K+ more than a nice PSA 8, so that's the obvious reason why. You can then use those proceeds towards the PSA 9 of your choice.

How is that centering anything less than a 9? What am I not seeing?

Mint 9 Centering: 55/45 both ways on front. 70/30 or better on back.

Near Mint/Mint 8 Centering: 60/40 both ways or better on front. 80/20 or better on back

I think it is closer to 57/43 and 60/40 in each direction, thus the 8.5;i.e. between the two standards.

Just as a general cue when i step back and look at how the card hits my eye, I notice when the centering is off both L/R and Top/bottom, BGS seems to hedge on the 8-8.5 side. Granted there are egregious centering examples out there but for the most part they are consistent.

The centering does fit their 10 guidelines but for 20K, i want my PSA 10 MJ RC to look much better than this one. No offense if it's yours.
