Default Has anyone ever dealt with "honestjohn" on eBay

Trying to run a scam on me now and the name sound familiar, it seems like he has tried it with me in the past as well.

I sold them a couple of cards recently (they ship today, in fact).
What is the scam?

Sounds like he should be selling fireworks somewhere.

Its the stupid multi listing. Second time ive had the issue.
He paid a buck for a Nick Foles Prizms and is now demandin the autographed version because auto is in the title.

He demanding a card that doesn't exist. Not sure the end game. Probably hoping I'll give him something good to avoid a negative. The first problem i hadnt finished uploading all the individual photos in the variation listing. Refunded that one. This one had the photos and in two locations stated that the autographed versions would say auto in the drop down.

Did he send a long diatribe note in the sale about protecting the card properly?

Message from buyer in the sales record:

Hello , please securely pack this fragile autographed collectible with an appropriately sized plastic card protector without using any adhesive tape or rubber bands to prevent any shipping damage. Also please include a copy of the Ebay packing slip so that I may provide Ebay feedback upon delivery. Thanks John Rex

My message to buyer:

I saw your note, you are not going to received an autograph Nick Foles card. Just wanted to verify that before I shipped. I have a photo of the card you ordered when you made your selection.

Buyer's reply:

I wrote the note based on the auction title and did not see a photo of the autographed card that was described in the title... it appears that you use stock photos. Please send the card as Described in the title thanks John

My reply:

I do not use stock photos. Each card in the drop down list has the exact card you are purchasing. Nice try. Your username sound familiar, I'm pretty sure you've tried to run a scam on me previously. I'll check the blowout forums.

...then I cancelled it and posted here. His name sounds really familiar. I could have sworn he tried something on me years ago. But I've recently done a rebrand and changed my eBay name. I've done 100K in apparel sales in the last three years with extremely rare situations. But $1.00 sports cards are a magnet for scumbags. Don't get it.

That might be the problem with listing non-autos and autos together in the same variation listing. I would separate them just to prevent any more future misunderstandings (since some people don't understand certain things, no matter how many times you try to explain it).

He won a couple of non-sport auctions from me, and he did include that same note (I don't put packing slips in my packages to save paper, but I did write my username on the outside of the team bag). He had also messaged me beforehand to ask me what a PSC was. I hope my explanation was satisfactory; he never messaged me back about it and he won the card, so hopefully there will be no issues.

Yeah, I guess but they're part of the same set parallel set it's perfectly reasonable to keep them together. Maybe the better option is just to take auto out of the title to stop the scammers. I just don't understand scamming to get a dollar cards. I wouldn't do it for any card but seems like a low payoff.

It seems weird that his reply was for me to send the autographed one...it doesn't exist.

If he has the word honest in his username that's an automatic block for me. I don't even need the details.

I'll admit that didn't help in terms of giving him the benefit of the doubt. Really the biggest tell was my making sure he knew what he was getting and him low key demanding auto that doesn't exist.

OK, the buyer is imagining things to get a nick foles auto with $1 and the packaging demand is alarming.

But OP you need to separate your auto and non-auto into different multi listing....... If I read the title without reading description and I would think I am getting an auto.

Most of the time PSCs are commissions or bought directly from the artist.

Well, this guy turned out to be a nightmare. On March 15th he bought some more cards from me, and on March 27th he opened a return request.
Here is the note he included in the return details:
"Not as described due to profuse adhesive tape... note message... becomes part of listing description... Hello. Please securely pack these fragile collectible cards with appropriately sized plastic plastic card protectors (sleeves & Top Loaders) without using any adhesive tape or rubber bands to prevent shipping damage. Also please include a copy of the Ebay packing slip so that I may provide Ebay feedback upon delivery. Thanks John Rex No packing slip and unable to release refractor cards due to excessive adhesive tape ... Not as described so please issue prepaid return label. Arrived damaged. Thanks John Rex "
I just want to point out how he says that the "note" that he included with his payment becomes part of the item description - that is absolutely false. Not sure where he gets this idea.

Here is how I shipped the cards to him:
Parallel Set (separated into 3 graded card bags):

5 single cards (inside graded card bag):

Here is how he shipped the cards back to me:

If you can't read his notes, this is what they say:
"Inside are the only cards with top loaders" (so I was supposed to send the 100-card parallel set in individual top loaders? ...interesting)
"The three packets of refractor base cards lie within. As you sent these with adhesive tape/that is how I returned them. Take note - I never removed any cards from the cellophane as this would have required damage to the cards - good luck - hope you have talents like Houdini" (How petty can you be?)

------
The cards came back on Saturday, right before I was getting ready to go over to my sister's house to hang with my family for Easter, so I didn't get a chance to inspect them. I had already blocked him as soon as I saw his return requests; he sent me two messages on Saturday night (I saw them Sunday morning):

"Hello. USPS reports the return made it to your porch. I hope you realize the reason I ask that no adhesive tape be used relates to them impossible task required to remove it w/o damaging the merchandise hence I had no choice but to return them without being able to remove the tape. I appreciate your acceptance of the return so quickly. I hope you carry to grudges. Que Sera Sera."

"OK I get it. You DO hold grudges. Preventing bidding from buyers with valid not as described disputes could earn you a seller defect. I’ll check Monday. Meanwhile please refund my original payment..."

------
Luckily, I'm not a moron and I was able to remove the cards from his petty packaging with no issues. There is absolutely NO damage to any of the cards. I refunded his money - then called eBay. The rep I spoke with agreed with me that "honest John" is abusing the return policy, and he stated that the images John included in the return details do not indicate any damage (they basically just show my packaging) or that they are "not as described". He also stated that if John has shown a pattern of this behavior, they may take action against his account and at the very least this will be recorded on his account (so if anyone else has had issues with this guy - call eBay!).

What a damned loser, how on Earth can those be damaged? Especially after the tape job is so wildly different?
