I don't do any type of drug(except opening a lot of bad sports cards boxes), but I'm okay w/ legalizing pot, and taxing the sh!t out of it. Oops, I forgot I do enjoy tons of caffeine..

I personally believe that one should be able to choose what they put in their own body. I'm not saying heroine should be legal, but I don't think throwing people in jail for simple possession is working. I understand locking up the manufactures and dealers of harder drugs, but locking up drug users is ineffective. They should be trying to help them instead of locking them up and throwing away the key. Marijuana is another subject though. I feel it should be legalized. It's way safer than alcohol, and it helps a lot of people. I would way rather be in a room full of stoners than a room full of drunks. Nobody has ever overdosed on it, and its not addictive. Alcohol kills thousands of people every year and is addictive, yet perfectly legal. The only reason pot is taking longer to legalize than alcohol did is because of the propaganda spread (reefer madness) by the government, and the pharmaceutical companies know they'll lose a lot of money.

My opinions....
The hard drugs....(Meth, Coke, heroin, crack, LSD, etc) should always be illegal Alcohol - its legal..... Pot - should be legal (tax $$) Steroids - legal with a script Perscription drugs - get a script As for "Drugs" one of the most addictive drugs out there hasn't been mentioned and is perfectly legal and adds BILLIONS to health care costs every year and that is nicotine......that's currently legal The vocal minority speaks - uninformed populace gets worked up and silly laws are made regarding what we can an can not do......thus the laws we have.

I'm annoyed with people saying "marijuana" doesn't hurt you or doesn't do anything bad. Just what if it takes alot of time to develop something?

Thrifting while drunk/high is a total game changer.

Tobacco/nicotine will never be banned. Way too much money in it. But it's terrible. Yucky even. Weed should be legal. It is less harmful than cigs by far. Alcohol age limit needs to drop to 18. I'll bet 80% of 18 years olds in the country drink anyway

One person's definition of a 'hard' drug is not necessarily the definition of others. I don't consider the substance mentioned in this thread as 'hard.' The perception has been shaped by government, parents, teachers, lobbyists, corporations, farmers, friends, etc, etc.
Certain drugs have a perceptional stigma. Generally (for me): if it doesn't negatively impact me, I don't care what you do The truth: that is very difficult to access. Does my costs of health insurance, automotive insurance, costs related to courts/law enforcement/regulation, general consumer goods go up? Everything in our lives is somehow intertwined and things that don't seem related are likely distantly related and do impact each other. Thus, I don't have a simple answer. With age and maturity each of us shapes how we interpret things. This is one reason I have no problem with politicians who 'flip flop' per the negative ads (flipping for convenience and pandering is a different story.) Life experiences change and shape our beliefs. Last edited by fullmetal; 10-06-2014 at 08:40 AM. Reason: spelling |

Legalize everything and tax them to help improve out economy and take the billions of dollars we are using on this war on drugs and put it to better use to help study addiction better and to create more relatively free rehab facilities for the lower income areas.
Drugs are here to stay and there is nothing our government can do about it. If a black market is created for anything in which there is a continued demand, then there is tons of money to be made and these criminal organizations will be all over it. We should have learned our lesson from prohibition. Do I like the idea of having addictive drugs that can cause psychosis as side effects? No but that doesn't matter because too many people want to get high on them. Only way to truly get rid of a drug is to get everybody to want to stop using it and that really isn't possible. |

I wish they would outlaw cigarettes. I was addicted for 11 years from ages 18-29. It was a pretty solid pack a day. I can't even imagine how much I spent over time. I feel 10x better now that I finally quit albeit about 10 pounds heavier.

The U.S. is super-hypocritical anyway with our love of alcohol and ignorance of its damaging effects, might as well let the rest of the crew in and get some sweet tax dollars from it. lobo_hacker |

I love reading that thread man. It's cool that you've found a system and done pretty well. Seems fun, but I definitely don;t have the time or patience for it.

when you consider that the usa is one of the wealthiest nations, with one of the highest standards of living and the highest proportion of regular churchgoers among the g8 nations, the incidence of addiction and the insatiable demand for drugs is very shocking. people like to say we're the "greatest country on earth" but boy do we have a dark side, apparently.
and the harm that this drug use produces, both domestically and around the world is incalculable. nearly everyone sees it, yet the demand doesn't diminish. we could basically care less, as violence and corruption rages out of control because of drugs in many parts of the world. the policy is tricky, though, because our instinct is to try to "win" and this is a game that is unwinnable. the object should be to create the least harm and on that front we can definitely make improvements. the feds should not be classifying marijuana as a controlled substance. it is asinine. more asinine than prohibition and we "came to our senses" on that like 80 years ago. people should not be in jail for solely possessing pot. it should be as legal as alcohol and taxed no more than cigarettes and/or alcohol. there is no basis to tax it more than other drugs. |
