Sounds like sour grapes.
Cubs need a starting pitcher not a hitter. Better PROVEN starting pitchers are available. He'd have no where to hit with the Cubs. Sure as hell not benching Heyward's glove or Schwarber's bat for an unproven hitter.

As a Padres fan, I'm bummed but figured they might be a long shot. The upshot? I live 10 minutes from Angels Stadium and take the train from there to work everyday.

Should be fun.

Well one, Ohtani's main calling card IS a pitcher. And you wouldn't bench someone that hit .211 to at least give someone else a chance?

Agreed with the other poster, absolutely every fan should have wanted Ohtani on their team. He's the biggest lottery ticket at the lowest price we will probably ever see in our lifetimes

Might be the offseason for baseball, but there's no offseason for fancam nonsense

I'm actually with the guy you quoted. Maitan is a great lottery ticket to have, but I wouldn't be too amped up about the other two being at the top of your farm system rankings

Please list the better proven pitchers you speak of that could have been had for what ohtani signed for. I'll hang up and listen.

Oh, man...! I have my doubts about Otani, but as a Trout fan this is VERY exciting! If he pans out, great - the Angels will be must-see TV this year. If not, no big deal - it's basically a free roll!

Regardless, no need to come in here to crap on everyone’s parade because they’re bitter

Ohtani is the classic sign dirt cheap with massive upside, there literally is no way to lose this deal if your any team. His money is gonna be so cheap for years that you would have been insane to not want in on this chase

Angels got a hell of a deal, whether it works out or not is to be seen, but there is zero downside to it

I don't disagree, but I also don't think you could call Maitan, Thaiss, and Adell monstrous

I know he could be had (and did sign) for peanuts but he's all hype right now. Tanaka IMO was the best pitcher to come from Japan in years and maybe (MAYBE) ever and he's not exactly setting the world on fire. I'd pay the millions (and millions) for a Cobb who is proven in this league over a guy who may or may not be good.

The boxes are going to slowly creep up. So much of this got busted b/c it was so cheap. Plus, beside Ohtani they have other nice hits. They did sell over $100 when it was pulled.

Nobody asked, but here comes my take:

Stars from Japan are over-hyped and rarely perform to the level of promise shown at home. I know the golden standard is Ichiro, but like most things in life, exceptions to rules exist. A pitcher from Japan seems to always get hurt, and you can double their ERA from Japan. Hitters from Japan sans-Ichiro never live up to their Godzilla/ Fukudome-like craze that we fall for every time.

Is this the "he's going to be a bust" post. No it isn't. It's the "be realistic with your expectations" post. I think it's a crazy jump from the two leagues and to try and hit and pitch at that level is going to be quite a challenge. On top of the moniker of Japanese Babe Ruth, I'm nervous for the kid.

So you'd bench a gold glove fielder to give an unknown a chance when you are a WS contending team?

Bitter Yankee fan? I post like once a month lol

We had our fair share of international busts. I was more then happy to see this guy go elsewhere. The boys in pinstripes were one game away from a WS appearance. I can careless who we sign in the off season, this team is stacked.

As for Ohtani, my wallet would've liked him to go to a big market team anywhere in the MLB, preferably not the Yankees as stated above bc I would bet on a bust status for a guy with average career stats in a subpar league. I wish all ball players the best of luck, but history and facts are not on this young bucks side

I did chuckle.
No one (except some or most? Yankee fans) hope he is a bust. I hope he becomes the Angels best pitcher they ever had. I don't know about others but i've explained why I was glad he didn't sign with the Cubs.

Yes anyway. I wouldn't bench Schwarber's power for an unproven rookie. Now if he could play SS over Baez? We'd talk
