A couple of months ago, i was about to pull the trigger on my biggest card investment ever. A PSA 10 Sandberg O Pee Chee rookie. I watched it on eBay for a few weeks but just couldn't pull the trigger on a 2k card. Well it sold and now i regret it. I did end up buying an unopened box of 1983 O Pee Chee in hopes theres a Sandberg or Gwynn i could send off for grading. Feels like im sitting on a lottery ticket. Havent broken it yet but i plan to in the next few weeks.
That being said, if anyone has a PSA 10 Sandberg, i could be your buyer. That would be my first 80s PSA Rookie.

Man, that 83 OPC set has three cards I'd love - Sandberg, Gwynn and McGee. That Sandberg is the holy grail for a lot of his collectors, and well worth the money!

I feel like Boggs rookies are quite underpriced when compared to Gwynn and Sandberg. Loved picking this up to join the Donruss one I own. Time to get the Topps one (perhaps a nice 9).

Yeah, that lottery ticket is probably a "You win a free ticket!" O-Pee-Chee is a shots on goal product. So many quality issues. I have a bunch of boxes I dread opening...

That’s the damn truth. You could open several boxes and come across a few gradable cards, none of which are of anyone significant. So many miscut cards, poor edges, thin card stock. I’ve been searching for an 88 OPC Kevin Seitzer and Mike Greenwell and have dozens of copies, none of which would even get a 6.

With Roger Clemens rookies being a little pricier, I've been focusing on getting some nice looking 9's and already have the 85 Donruss/Leaf combo. I set my sights on an 85 Fleer and really like this one. Getting a nice 9 for $20 instead of a 10 for several hundred felt like a no-brainer to me! Buy the card, not the case!

That is a great looking example, still need to pick one up for my 85F set.

The one thing I'm kinda looking forward to is the full, unopened '86 OPC case I got a few months back. That should give me some quality and quantity I hope. The biggest problem is finding the time to crack that sucker. Oh, and the PSA fees

Thanks. It’s been a little hard to find a nicely centered 9!

Oh, wow. I’ve yet to find a nice enough Glenn Davis or Vince Coleman to submit for a 10. I just cracked three boxes of ‘88 Leaf with one to go and there are definitely some HOF’ers that could get 10’s, but only two or three rookies that might get a 9 or 10. Such a tough set to get good centering on!

Here’s a new add from today;

I’ll get my Doc rookies scanned together and post them. They’re sprinkled throughout this thread. Here’s another pitcher from that era who struggled with substance abuse, but made a remarkable comeback.

This was a rather big one for me, seeing as how Whitaker is one of my favorite players from the 70's and 80's. I really do hope that he gets his proper induction to Cooperstown soon. He really should have gone in with Trammell!
