Default That moment when your 4 year old meets his Idol

Hi all,

Not sure if this is going to be short or long but bear with me.

2 weekends ago my family decided to make a trip to Green Bay to get a couple days of training camp in. We got there on Sunday and there was no practice, which we knew, so we did a stadium tour and it was awesome. We spent some time going through Lambeau and just had some quality time with the family.

I know I don't post a lot but when I do, it usually has to do with my son. He is 4 and a huge packers/card fan. If you want the long story you can read it here. http://www.blowoutforums.com/showthread.php?t=997803

Long story short he has completely enamored with Kyler Fackrell since the Packers drafted him last year. He plays defense, plays for the Packers, and most importantly, share the same name. With him being 4, I really don't know I guess what he understands. Does he understand football? Does he understand cards? Does he understand who exactly Kyler Fackrell is? My goals was to somehow, someway get him to interact with him to show him that this person wasn't just someone they he sees on TV and sportscards, but a real person.

We get to practice at about 7:30 and sit on the street to watch the Packers ride bikes down. We are in the middle of the bike way so we really just see the players ride by, say hi, and get a few high fives ( including Jordy )

I see Kyler coming and he happens to have chosen a bike that is way to small for him. He is carrying the bike and walking with the young girl who owns is. My son recognizes him and yells " Hey Kyler!" He looks over and my son is displaying his jersey proudly. Fackrell yells back, nice jersey buddy! and keeps walking. I have to admit, that would have been good enough, but it gets better.

After practice we line up on the other side of the street in hopes of maybe getting an autograph. I am thinking that maybe because he is walking the bike it may be easier. Well he picked a different bike on the way back and is going at a pretty good rate. My son timidly asks "can you sign my shirt" as he rides by. Fackrell sees him but it is pretty late. He tries to stop but can't and keeps going. I knew it was a long shot but I thought maybe. I continue to watch and he keeps going. Then, he slows down, stops, and starts making the trek back to us. He is riding his bike back against all the other bikes to come back to my son. He parks the bike, greets my son with a high five, and kneels down to his level to talk to him. He signs both my sons and daughters jersey, poses for a couple pictures, gives my son a hug and heads out.

Words can't describe the smile, joy, amazement that I could see in my kid's face. The Packers became real to them that day, not just an image or an idea. Its not many times that you get to experience a day with your children that you know neither of them will forget.

Great story! Seeing stories like this si why I lvoe going to camp.

You constantly hear about PEDs, drugs, assault, and domestic violence charges for players, but there are so many good stories that go unheard

Glad your boy was able to get that experience to remember. To some it may seem small, but now he is a fan for life.

That is great! I have so many memories of meeting Broncos players at training camp as a kid. That began my love for collecting cards and autographs all these years later.

VERY cool!! Happy for you and the kids, and props to Fackrell for recognizing the moment!

You should tweet that picture to the Packers...

This guy is honestly my boys hero. And I am so ok with that. He took the time to make my boy feel special, and I can never, ever, repay him for that
