Seen her at NYCC. Took a couple pics with her (and they came out shytty).

Very friendly and not a "makeup artist" like Nigri.

^Awesome.

I'm very impressed with CGC's turnaround time. I submitted 3 invoices during NYCC.. one was for a re-slab/new holder which I received back today.. 2 week turnaround. The second was my stack of Campbell books already graded waiting for shipment.. by the time they reach me should be exactly one month turnaround. My Hughes stack of books on the other hand is still sitting waiting to be graded. Oh well 2 out of 3 ain't bad ...but if books are handled first come first serve then all should have had the same outcome, which probably means they didn't pack peoples books up in the order they were received.

That's beautiful Marino.

CGC is WAY behind on Modern Submissions, they had a record breaking number come through at NYCC. But all other tiers they seem to be ahead on, which is great. I have two submissions (my first in 18+ months) one being a Standard, the other Fast Track Modern which will be about 4-6 weeks.

Natali Sanders quality of work has grown by leaps and bounds over the last couple of years... unfortunately so has her prices for commissions.

Gab Dell'otto is a genius with a brush. Dare i say better than Alex Ross?
I almost considered selling one of my pieces from him but common sense prevailed lol

That Natali sanders piece is on eBay. Don't think Marino owns it, but it is an awesome piece. Love that Natali only takes women requests lol

Random thought... ive noticed a lot of people getting in/back into comics. Which is great for the hobby.
Is it just me tho or does it seem a lot of these guys are more financially driven than enjoying what the hobby is all about?

Could be.. it's what brought me back into the hobby.. started off collecting/reading as a kid and then later in life started collecting for investment purposes. I'm over that now though and am back to reading and enjoying the hobby again..it's a lot less stressful .

For me, selling is more about funding buying than making money. I rarely buy things to sell. I buy what I collect, and sometimes I buy extra to sell later. Different strokes for different folks. I wouldn't call it collecting though, unless you are maintaining a collection that isn't just spec/for sale.

I got back in it a year ago a bit. I don't spend nearly as much as most but figured why not l love reading Sci fi and fantasy. Plus u add some badass art and a no brainer. Plus I don't feel like much of a sports card collector anymore, seems like more of a money thing. I have just been buying some stuff with characters I like and neat art. If something blows up well yeah I'm gonna take that money and buy something else I like. I don't really look at other sites but it seems like the junkies here are a pretty good group that really enjoy collecting.

1. I do have a budget in mind for it but I am not going to break the bank for it since I can always jump on the commission's list for a Slave Leia or Black Cat.

Just for the record, I have nothing against flipping. We all like to make money to fund our hobby.

But as of late, ive noticed a lot of new guys are more concerned about investing, pressing,
"limited" print runs and ugly "rare" variants and adding sigs to books all for the sake of profiting.

When you see retailers release these so called rare variants at $50 a pop or flavour of the month creators charging $60 a sig, theyre essentially pricing collectors out. Are people not concerned about this?

Fro memory, that Cable was a one off thing. She has refused male character requests on pretty much all of her sketch opps.
Also Marino, have you seen her new commission rates on her website?

Flippers only exist because collectors are buying thier stuff.

Nah i get that man. And i get the whole 'supply and demand' thing. But what im trying to say is, would half of these books even be in demand if people didnt buy into the hype thats created around them? I mean there was a variant that sold for 2k simply because it had a different logo?!

COMMISSIONING
Yeah that cable is a one off. If you are paying that much for a commission might as well get a female character anyway.

I get what you're saying. Sadly it's what the collectable market has become, across the board. Cards, action figures, bobble heafs, it doesn't matter.

It's your hobby, do it the way you want. For me, it's easy to pass up something that is manufactured to be rare and collectable. Other people can spend thier money however they want to.

If you have to go with "payment plans" for sketched cover ---- you need help!

On the other hand, "published cover" ---- I would.
