56 Topps Mantle vs 55 Topps Clemente?

Considering all things are equal, which one would you rather have and why?

Clemente. It is a rookie card vs. just another Mantle card. Clemente is also a high number and harder to find. Now if it was 1951 Bowman, that would be another story.

While ‘56 is a great Mantle, I have to agree that you go with the Clemente RC given the choice.

I actually have the Mantle but if all things equal as others have said would be Clemente because its a rookie

I would definitely take the rookie over a 4th or 5th year card basically. Even though I think the 56 Mantle may be Mantle's best looking Topps card all things considered that or the 53 to me.

I'll answer the OP's question with another question:

Who do you like better and what card do you like better? That's the one I would go with.

I personally collect Mantle. I love his cards and would take the Mantle all day every day. I don't have a connection to Clemente and I don't collect him. Great card, great player and great person though.

I like the 56 Mantle more. I bought one a few years ago. That being said, a 55 Clemente wasn't on my "buy" list then. I should put it on there and grab a nice looking one the next ebay bucks deal that comes around...

Triple the price. The 55 Topps Clemente along with the 49 Leaf Jackie Robinson are the 2 post war non Mantle cards that should be in every collection. The 56 Topps is behind the 51-53 Bowman and 52-53 Topps Mickey Mantles as must haves. I would take the Clemente over any Topps/Bowman Mantles except the 51 Bowman and 1952 Topps.

Thanks guys for the insight. Ended up getting a 55 clemente, found a nice one I was happy with. That being said, now debating on a 52B Mantle, would you rank that one over the 56T Mantle? The 52B Mantle is appealing to me because it seems rather undervalued in comparison to other early year mantles and I think its a great looking card.

I would personally go for the 1953 Bowman. It is the most popular Bowman set and one of the best set designs ever. You can't go wrong with either the 52 Bowman or 56 Topps either.
