I don't get it...if the author tried to present the article as something truly inspiring, but left out any background information pertinent to that premise (other than him and his father collected cards together, which pretty much every collector in the universe has done), then that is some serious subpar journalism.

It's like creating an article about some guy running a 4.8 40, yet not including any picture or mentioning he has prosthetic legs.
This right here. IS IT NOT MORE INSULTING TO ASSUME THIS GUY IS DEVELOPMENTALLY DELAYED IN SOME WAY? Your apathy for the "poor peasent"?? If he meant us to be inspired by this, we should know why we should be inspired. I went by the context of the story, which was all we were given.

BTW I will gladly send a factory set or 2 his way...let me know!

He would probably be over the moon if someone sent him a couple of boxes of Ultra Pro 9 card binder sleeves ...

Just received this email.

Hi,

My name is Steve Bowersox; I'm sort of the next contact for Richard Barrett regarding messages that have been sent to him. A family member, either mother or aunt, set up a PO Box for him. That information is:
Richard Barrett
P.O. Box 3
Tarkio, MO 64491

Richard has been excited, to say the least, that others' interest has been captured by the article. He's been taken by surprise.

Thank you for your interest and thinking of him.

Steve Bowersox

I feel great for the guy and am not judging him at all.

Be careful not to turn his managable hobby of 30K cards into an unmanagable flood of stuff he doesn't really need.

Remember, he's happy with his collection.

To be honest, from what the article states as he likes to organize and reorganize, I think he's autistic. And autistic people have their one fixation they love and know more about than any (in this case; baseball cards). I think he'll go stimulation overboard and will probably drive the people in his care home crazy

I'm going to add a letter to suggest passing extras along so other kids can enjoy the hobby as much as he does. I think he'll love doing that too

Thanks for posting this info!!!

I will be sending him a random assortment of HOF'ers and random cards to supplement his collection.

Perhaps a future article will reflect the generosity and kindness of board members here.

All I saw was a dude who was happy with the collection he has amassed since his youth. Good for him and I hope he continues to collect the way we all should....for fun, yo'.
