Thanks, guys! These were definitely my new faves. I'm really enjoying getting Leaf/Donruss and Topps/O-Pee-Chee counterparts from 1985-1988. It's making for a tough search since a lot of the PSA 10 and PSA 9's are harder to come by, but it's so much fun.

Really? I've been tempted to buy a box of either 1985 OPC or perhaps 1985-1987 Leaf. Just haven't quite figured out if it's worth doing. I've never subbed cards before.

"worth doing" is subjective. Especially with 1980s stuff.

Will you have a blast? Can almost guarantee it.
Will you pull "10's"? Can almost guarantee you will not! LOL

But, the sets are way smaller then their US counterpart, and tend to have a heavy concentration of star players, which adds to the fun of ripping

It really would be a blast to give it a go. I'll have to see what 1985 OPC boxes go for these days. There are just under 400 cards in the set, which is indeed far less than the Topps set. Leaf also features way less cards than the Donruss set, so I imagine there's a good chance of pulling some bigger names multiple times.

I'm starting to concentrate a lot of my attention towards getting 9's and mostly 10's of OPC and Leaf rookies, especially since they are a lot tougher to come by. Being of Canadian background myself (my dad's family is Canadian), also adds to the appeal.

NICE!

Steve has '85 Leaf at $95, but no OPC at this time

I don't have any slabbed cards to show off in this thread...most of my graded is key hockey, where BGS is king.

But...

Not slabbed yet but there must be at least one PSA 10 in there!

I'm rather fond of the Topps (and Fleer) multi-player rookies from this era. Even the guys who are no-name players. It's such a cool idea that I'm glad to see still exists a little these days.

Never heard of anyone focusing on this, but that's pretty cool. And your registry is pretty amazing!

I still kick myself for not buying a 3-row shoebox full of 1987 OPC in mint condition. A local dealer kept bringing it the local cardshow, and originally was asking $20 for it. He eventually knocked it down to $10, and it wasn't picked over. I just didn't want to add more bulk to my collection. Sadly, rumor has it that the dealer got in trouble with the IRS and all of his cards were seized.

Oh, man, that hurts. I can only imagine what beauties were in that shoebox. Those '87 OPC cards are really sweet.

Bought a 1985 Topps rack pack on eBay with McGwire showing on the back for $37 back in May. This was the result.

Nothing huge today, but you can never go wrong with a PSA 10 Griffey rookie...
