Default 2017 Topps Throwback Thursday Thread

Topps is back with their Throwback Thursday sets. Last week's set #1 of 2017 featuring the new HOF inductees had a print run of 327 sets which is in line with the majority of 2016 sets. This week's set featuring players who have appeared as card #1 in Topps sets should be on the high side of the print run with the popular 1952 design and includes Kris Bryant as well as Mike Trout.

Started passing on these about mid-way through last season and wasn't thrilled with the first week but this weeks looks nice.

It's a nice idea, but it all depends on which designs and players they choose.

So far, I've only bought two sets, the 1955 Topps FB design, and the 1957 Topps FB design.

I thought the 80 Basketball was a great idea, just not Star Wars. I agree it's all about the design...I'm still on the fence of the Card #1 Players in the 52 Design but I am not a real big fan of new cards of old players. New or current players on old cards I like but would rather not have on old baseball sets as it seems a bit over done.

The Star Wars set was a loser from the start, they should have just stuck with baseball. I will say they were at least smart enough to do separate numbering on that and the Rocky set so the baseball is continuous. I really liked them last year and was surprised they didn't catch on more. I think the card backs being basically an advertisement combined with the popularity of Topps Now made this a lesser sought after set.

Some of the designs last year were too obvious overuse of same image from multiple products (not that it doesn't happen with other series), and it seemed like an easy/lousy job on photo shop.
But some of them I liked. Ichiro 3000 hit, Ortiz retirement, World Series, and MVP candidates sets were nice looking cards IMO.
This week's design also looks really nice. I'll be buying several sets this week.

Can someone please explain this to me. How many cards are you getting for the twenty bucks? Which players are you getting?

Thanks for clarification

You usually get 5 or 6 cards.
It's $20 if you just buy one set, but there is volume discount.
If you buy 3 sets, Topps charge $50, so there is $10 discount overall.

As for the players, it all depends on the week.
You can see all of them from below.
They have the past sets listed as well (though you can't buy those anymore from Topps.com).

I'm debating on whether or not I want to pick up an A-rod.

I would also say that I hope Topps has quit posing the Yankees in front of the press box of their Spring Training field. That shot always looks like it is taken inside a prison, and is on a multitude of baseball cards.

I know it's not a very popular item on these boards (or in general), but you might want to check out the Throwback Thursday set. 1st rookie logo cards of some top notch players. https://www.topps.com/collectibles/t...tbt-set-4.html

I think the current TBT 1962 RC set will be popular. I might have to get a set or two.

Now if Topps is going to be making sets all year with Bregman/Benny/Swanson (RC)s, i may have to pick them up. $20 a pop though! LOL

Yes, they are regular sized cards and not the 5x7s.

It was the only set last year that you could count on a standard interval. I guess we'll find out if they up with any other new products. Seems to be the direction they are moving.

They had the "Topps Crossover" coming out every Wednesday(?) as well, but it disappeared after week 5 or 6.
I actually liked the design of Crossover, so sort of miss it.
