Just picked this up for $17.50 shipped. It seems legit with the hologram. Why are these going so low? Seemed like these were $100 or more last time I looked

COA and Holograms don't mean anything anymore. I only buy from sources such as PSA/DNA, James Spence, UDA, Steiner, Mounted Memories, Fields of Dreams for example that I have at least heard of and I can trust.

i recently read that willie's former agent stole a bunch of the holograms a few years ago
There's a lot of questions on the photos, which is why PSA and JSA don't even authenticate them anymore. I think more people are realizing it as there have been hundreds on auction the last few months, many sold in lots of like 5+ |

Rule of thumb with Mays is it needs to be on a older item ( Think card or American League Rawlings Baseball)

It's 100% fake. PSA will not authenticate it either. There are a bunch of fake items with Bonds & Mays holograms on them. When bonds & hoskins had their falling out, hoskins had a ton of the holograms and he or someone he knew began producing forgeries and just slapping the holograms on them. The Mays "the catch" is one of the most common ones I see on ebay. They never go for more than $20 now. You can even ask psa they will tell you they no longer pass them.

In the world of autograph collecting and high end memorabilia, if it looks too good to be true in price, odds are it probably is too good to be true and is a forgery, fake or somehow misrepresented or misinterpreted. There are some good deals out there, but far less steals.

Thanks for sharing. I've never heard of this before today but haven't followed mays autos. I now wonder about my Mays 16x20 the catch that I purchased from Steiner several years back (maybe 6-8). Also has the say hey holo. I believe they acquire some of their pieces from dealers. I've never felt great about the say hey holo Or any player exclusive holo for that matter because they just don't put the diligence into managing them and they seem prone to forgeries (i.e. Bonds) As for buying from reputable sources. That is what I do (or in person at shows), but even stand up companies sell fakes. Usually because they buy certain pieces from trusted dealers. Steiner does this occasionally (though I don't know of any fakes) and field of dreams at least used to. In fact I have a fake DiMaggio that was in my collection for years that I bought maybe 20 years ago. About 3-5 years ago I looked at it closer and didn't look right. Brought it to jsa and it failed. Still have the field of dream sticker and coa. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Steiner is only good for signings they hold. If it has a sticker from another company and theirs you are gambling as if you are buying off ebay. They just mark it up 500% to give you assurances.

At the white plains show is where I first noticed these forgeries a few years back there was a guy with a stack of like 300 selling them for 20 bucks . Right at that moment I realized they all forgeries. He just had them all loose on his table taking in the cash from suckers
