I think it comes down to the framing of the photo. If it's a bad photo, it won't resonate well. (Not sold on the horizontal cards here.)

I agree with Buzz. There's something about the perspective that makes me notice the composition of the photo more. The Beni could almost be a non-license photo, like they're showing the other company how it could be done.

The Topps and RC logos are weirdly placed. Why not stick the RC logo in the bottom right corner in that wasted fuzzy space? They're really imposing on the photo where they are now. If nothing else, they should be on the right side on that Swanson card.

I think that fuzzy area is going to be used to show different color parallels and such. Would make it hard to see the RC logo, but I agree - they could have found a better place for sure.

I keep flip-flopping on it. I hated it at first, then started to like it, now I kind of hate it again. I guess it'll be a "you have to see it in person" type thing for me to decide.

Meh

Too bad most of the big names were "rookies" in 2016.

That doesn't preclude it from housing the RC logo. You can see here on this camo parallel that the corner isn't the only signifier. The RC logo would be completely visible there. They'd just have to get rid of that pointless "Series 1" text, which doesn't appear to be on the regular base cards. Overall, just a poorly executed system.

Agree about the design. Much more positive opinion on it than at the first look.

See Gsellman, Lugo, and Ynoa as Mets RC's. I think that leaves TJ Rivera as the odd man out. Guess he'll be in series 2.

Good point. Not sure there is a good reason then.

Likely to ensure that they aren't cut off the card when sheets aren't perfectly cut.

Looks like an attempt to look like SC, but a pretty bad attempt at that. MAYBE this will look better in person?? Right off the bat, I am not a fan.

I have a feeling these cards will look very nice in-person. Especially chrome

Safe to say the list of rookies would also be in heritage?

I like the design overall, but as a super-hyped-about-the-Benintendi-RC-card Red Sox fan, that Benintendi card is a massive disappointment. It looks like a 5th grader won a contest to design a card. No logo on the jersey...no logo on the helmet...really? That's the best photo you got?

The All-Star Rookie cup is weird on the Bregman too. Looks like they threw darts at the card and wherever they hit they put a logo.

I personally don't like the design...i feel like there is a downward design trend for the base Topps set since 2015...i liked that design, as well as 2014, 2013, etc.

sadly, Corey Seager cards were in 2016 Topps and let's just say I wish the card had a different design.

the "tilted" logos on the 2017 cards really bother me.

and, in response to all the comments about the photos, I wish Topps would be more consistent with picking great photos...Mike Trout ALWAYS seems to have a great photo on his cards...then, for others, like Corey Seager, it's always a variation of the same thing like his swing. I also feel like Topps does a better job picking photos for Stadium Club, Heritage, Pro Debut, etc. than for base Topps...WHYYYY???? is it licensing of the photos? any ideas?

end rant

I don't think they'll all make it, but I've got my fingers crossed that the majority do.

I'd bet those and more in Heritage since it has multi-player RCs in 1968 design.

Yeah, this is the second year in a row that they've futzed with the logos. From slicing them in 2016 to knocking them over and distorting them in 2017.
