Default lambeauleap87's 2017 IP Success Thread

2017 already, that's just nutty. 2016 was great to me, so hopefully 2017 will be just as good. My first 'graphing of the year started off pretty well, did the Carolina Hurricanes for a short while last night and then the pregame bus this afternoon. Came away with the following:

Jaccob Slavin 1/1 Card
Justin Faulk 1/4 Cards, 1/1 Card
Jay McClement 1/2 Cards
Lee Stempniak 3/3 Cards
Rod Brind'Amour 1/1 Puck
Jordan Staal 1/2 Cards
Cam Ward 2/3 Cards, 1/1 Card (had help)
Jeff Skinner 1/4 Cards

There were five names I really hoped to get (Ward, Skinner, Faulk, Staal, Brind'Amour) and I went 5/5, so I was happy. Solid start to the new year even though I haven't been doing hockey as much as I'd like.

Did the Ottawa Senators and Carolina Hurricanes a second time earlier this week, both only at gametime. Not a bad couple of days.

Senators
Dion Phaneuf 1/4 Cards
Kyle Turris 1/4 Cards

Hurricanes
Cam Ward 2/2 Cards
Justin Faulk 1/1 Card, 1/1 Card (had help)
Steve Smith 1/1 Puck
Jay McClement 1/1 Card
Lee Stempniak 1/1 Card
Ty Rattie 1/1 Card
Michael Leighton 2/2 Cards

Happy to get two of the better players on the Senators even though the quantity wasn't there. The Hurricanes are a split of very good signers and very bad signers as you can tell by how many of the same guys I got over three days this week.

Hit the hotel when the New Jersey Devils were in town on Saturday, did quite well. I don't think you'll find a better signing team in the NHL than the Devils...even though they're terrible. I'll be seeing them again shortly, and I'm willing to take 50/50s or consignments on everyone but Hall and Zajac. PM me if interested.

Joe Blandisi 1/1 Card
Stefan Noesen 1/1 Card
Damon Severson 1/1 Card
Ben Lovejoy 1/1 Card
Kyle Palmiere 4/4 Cards
Andy Greene 4/4 Cards
Adam Henrique 2/2 Cards
Mike Cammalleri 2/4 Cards
PA Parenteau 2/2 Cards
Travis Zajac 2/7 Cards
Cory Schneider 2/2 Cards

Not bad, not bad at all. Hoping to do the Canucks, Jackets, and Red Wings all this week.

Had a chance to do the Columbus Blue Jackets annual outdoor practice yesterday. I'd heard great things about it, but it was a little too hectic to actually have a great day. I can't complain as I did quite well, but I was hoping for a little more.

Scott Hartnell 1/3 Cards
Boone Jenner 2/3 Cards
Alex Wennberg 2/2 Cards
Josh Anderson 1/1 Card
Seth Jones 1/3 Cards
Sam Gagner 2/3 Cards
Zach Werenski 1/1 8x10
Nick Foligno 1/1 2015 All Star Puck
Cam Atkinson 1/1 2017 Official All Star Puck

And a little bonus, walking away from the Winter Park, three of us saw Dylan Larkin outside the arena buying a coffee. Turned that into a signed puck pretty fast too, as he did 1/1 for me!

I'll chalk that up as a win. Love how the Cam puck turned out, the Foligno is alright, and Larkin was a real bonus. Excited to get my first Zach Werenski, too; I think he's gonna be a real good one.

Larkin has become very tough (even by Detroit standards), so that's a HUGE win.

Also good to see the greatest franchise in sports, the NJ Devils, hooking it up

Good stuff!

I've gotten incredibly lucky with Larkin twice, got him last year as he was walking around downtown in the middle of the afternoon last year, too. Obviously he wasn't thrilled to sign (if you can't tell by the signature he gave to me one-on-one), but I'm very happy he still did it.

The Devils might be the best signing team in the Big Four. Bunch of class acts off the ice, even if they leave a little to be desired on the ice!

Thanks for the kind words, 'graphing hockey has definitely become my favorite sport to 'graph, even if there's not a whole lot of universal love to it.

Long week full of mostly dud teams, had at least a solid day with the Predators today to make up for a rough week that featured the Red Wings and Penguins.

Detroit Red Wings:
Darren Helm 1/1 Card

(that was it)

Pittsburgh Penguins:
Tom Kuhnhackl 1/1 Card
Nick Bonino 1/2 Cards

(that was also it)

Nashville Predators:
Vernon Fiddler 1/3 Cards
Mike Fisher 1/4 Cards
Phil Housley 1/1 Puck
Filip Forsberg 1/3 Cards, 1/1 Card (had help)
Ryan Johansen 1/1 2015 ASG Puck (with "MVP" inscription), 2/3 Cards (had help)

Not a whole lot of fun until Nashville came through, even then Rinne/Subban/Neal/Josi all went straight to the bus. At least I got a couple, though. Pens players weren't having the crowd (Pittsburgh dealers SUCK), and the Red Wings weren't real interested. Relatively over it, going to be glad to have some time off from hockey 'graphing.

Detroit, Pittsburgh, Boston, and Chicago are far and away the 4 toughest NHL teams. Two in a row from that group is brutal. Don't let it turn you off of doing hockey!

For what it's worth, the Red Wings have the same paid TTM program the Tigers have, and players are supposedly discouraged from signing for free. Doesn't make it any more fun but at least the logic is there.

Yeah, I didn't have high expectations for the Red Wings (I never do, but it's been too nice of weather not to go out 'graphing), but they still managed to underwhelm. At least I lucked into Larkin! Pittsburgh isn't bad, it's just the huge crowd (most of which are tools) that they draw. Very frustrating.

I was glad to have skipped Toronto or else it would've been three awful teams in a row; apparently only Josh Leivo signed all day. I'll be missing Minnesota and the Islanders (bummer), but I'm sure I'll be back at it for New Jersey and Buffalo, two teams that should put me back on the right track!

What I said: "I'm so glad to be done 'graphing hockey for a couple weeks."

What I meant: "I'm going to do the Blue Jackets later that night."

One of my buddies asked if I wanted to ride along to try for some Columbus players after their loss against the Nashville Predators, and I couldn't say no. Didn't do bad at all, but we never saw Bobrovsky leave.

Lukas Sedlak 1/1 Team Yearbook
Joonas Korpisalo 1/1 Team Yearbook
Josh Anderson 1/1 Team Yearbook
Matt Calvert 1/1 Team Yearbook, 1/1 Card
Oliver Bjorkstrand 1/1 Team Yearbook, 1/1 Card
Sam Gagner 3/3 Cards
Boone Jenner 2/2 Cards
Nick Foligno 4/8 Cards (he was with friends)
Seth Jones 1/2 Cards
Jack Johnson 1/1 Card

Walked away with eighteen total including three guys I'd never gotten before, so it wasn't a bad night. Most of the tougher guys didn't sign (Hartnell, Saad, Dubinsky), but I was happy to land the guys that I did (especially Jones and Johnson). Still have a lot more to get done, but I'm finished with several Jackets, so I can't actually complain. Pretty productive day yesterday!

Damn. I heard from my dealer friends that went up there was a lot of people and Crosby mostly signed for kids only. They have been drawing huge crowds after games and practices and from my graphin friends that graph them after practices, a lot of guys don't stop anymore really except for Sid

Took the opportunity earlier this week to capitalize on the proximity of my Spring Break, once again, to the Twins Spring Training facility. I 'graphed a practice while the team was on the road, so quite a few notable guys (Buxton, Sano, etc.) weren't around. Still, no one denied (except Trevor May, but he had a good reason), and it was an all around great day.

Robbie Grossman 3/3 Cards
Drew Stubbs 1/1 Card (#132 in terms of Indians I've met)
Kyle Gibson 3/3 Cards
Phil Hughes 3/3 Cards
Jose Berrios 2/4 Cards
Danny Santana 2/2 Cards
Ervin Santana 1/1 Card
Torii Hunter 2/2 Cards
Byung-Ho Park 1/2 Cards
Tony Oliva 1/1 Card
Brian Dozier 1/1 SS ROMLB, 1/2 Cards (had help)
Joe Mauer 1/1 SS ROMLB

Everybody was great, Dozier and Mauer were signing machines. Granted, most of the tougher guys (Polanco, Rosario, etc.) weren't around, but still. The ball from Dozier might be one of my favorites in my collection, that thing is beautiful.

Also, shameless plug: check out my thread for NHL consignments & 50/50s if interested.

I went and did a little more hockey today as the New Jersey Devils were in town. I had a little stuff leftover to get done and figured it wouldn't be a problem since they're the best signing team in hockey. I was wrong, it rained. A lot. Managed to stay a little dry and come away with a few, though:

Ryane Clowe 4/4 Cards
Travis Zajac 3/4 Cards
Taylor Hall 1/1 2017 All Star Puck, 1/2 Cards (had help)

Not bad for an hour's work, I was stoked to get Hall on my puck. NHL Game Pucks are probably my new favorite item to get signed, and I especially love the 2017 All Star Game pucks.

Nice! Taylor Hall is one of my faves. Wish he was still w/ the Oilers, but glad he's doing well in NJ. Hope to someday get his auto. Good job!

Thanks! I was excited to get him, especially with how well my All-Star puck turned out.

Did the Buffalo Sabres tonight, hoping for a solid night. Left home fairly early and pretty happy. Kane denied, Tyler Ennis said "after dinner" (and I didn't stay), and O'Reilly/Bogosian took an Uber off into the vast unknown. Here's what I did get, though:

Josh Gorges 2/4 Cards
Marcus Foligno 1/1 Card
Robin Lehner 1/4 Cards
Brian Gionta 2/2 Cards
Rasmus Ristolainen 3/3 Cards
Anders Nilsson 1/1 Card
Sam Reinhart 1/3 Cards
Matt Moulson 2/4 Cards
Jack Eichel 1/1 Game Puck

Eichel smeared the puck when he dropped the pen on it, but I was lucky to get him. Right place, right time, going against the grain got a sweet 'graph. Everybody else was fairly cool, aside from Kane who denied three separate times (quite rudely). Stoked to get my Eichel puck done though!

That's about as good as Eichel signs these days, even with the smear. He's been tough so that's a nice get.

And the Hallsy puck...gorgeous

I was just happy to get Eichel again, he's pretty hit or miss. Even with the smear, I was happy with how it turned out. Not nearly as happy as I was with the Hall puck, though! Class act.

Braved the cold to 'graph the Florida Panthers today...more or less wish I hadn't. Not a stellar day and it was freezing cold, but I still walked home with a few.

Aleksander Barkov 6/6 Cards
Vincent Trocheck 4/4 Cards (gave one away...)
James Reimer 1/3 Cards, 1/1 card (...to my friend that got me an extra Reimer)
Denis Potvin 2/3 8x10s (consignment, he smeared one in the cold)

So, meh, not a great day, but I still came home with double digits for myself. Barkov and Trocheck were both super cool, but I lucked into Trocheck. Unfortunately, Ekblad and Luongo weren't travelling either. No acknowledgment from Jagr, Keith Yandle said he would come back and then ignored, Thornton/Scrivegeour/MacKenzie signed, but I didn't need them.

Not much to report, but the Maple Leafs will be in next week...oh boy.

Long story short: yes, the Toronto Maple Leafs are as terrible at signing as you may have heard. Awful signatures, grumpy players, and not a whole lot of fun.

Ben Smith 1/1 Card
Nazem Kadri 1/3 Cards
William Nylander 1/2 Cards (literally a checkmark for a sig)
Morgan Reilly 1/4 Cards
Jake Gardiner 1/4 Cards
Auston Matthews 1/1 2017 All Star Game Puck

Matthews wanted nothing to do with it early, but we broke him down eventually. His signature is complete trash...but it's his sig. I'm excited to add him to my collection, but that dude needs to lighten up. Oh well, still a win in my book.

I did the Blue Jackets again on Saturday, and again, I didn't wait long enough to see Bobrovsky leave. One of these days I'll see him again...

Marcus Nutivaara 1/1 Card
Scott Hartnell 2/2 Cards
Nick Foligno 4/4 Cards
Jack Johnson 1/1 Card
Brandon Dubinsky 2/4 Cards (first time getting him)
Zach Werenski 1/1 Official Game Puck

Aside from missing Bob again, another solid day. Happy to add Werenski on a game puck for my Jackets collection, and I got quite a few tougher guys (Johnson, Hartnell, Dubinsky). I'll probably do the Jackets another day or two over the rest of the season, so if anyone is interested in a consignment or anything, let me know. Have a few extra game pucks/cards/etc.

Don't worry, 'graphers of Blowout, you can finally enjoy and relate to my thread...it's baseball season again. The Columbus Clippers held an open practice today, so I went and gave it a shot post-practice to try and knock out some of my stuff early.

Bradley Zimmer 1/3 Cards
Kyle Crockett 2/4 Cards
Jordan Smith 1/1 Card
Erik Gonzalez 2/2 Cards
Carlos Frias 1/4 Cards
Richie Shaffer 3/8 Cards
Steve Delabar 8/8 Cards
Shawn Morimando 2/2 Cards
Nick Goody 2/2 Cards
Adam Moore 4/4 Cards
Perci Garner 2/4 Cards
Adam Plutko 1/1 Game Used Hat

Not a bad day, got a lot of stuff done and some decent names. Missed a few guys chasing others (bummed to have missed Mike Clevinger, but he's apparently had it with signing). A little disappointed in some of these guys limits, especially being just three of us there, but it's fine. Stoked to get my Plutko game-used hat signed/inscribed, I'll have to get pics up here one of these days.
