Default Mail day and a story

Two weeks ago today there was a thread started asking what one card do you wish would show up on eBay (http://www.blowoutforums.com/showthr...highlight=ebay). I posted one card for each of my PC guys. I've never seen the Penny card on eBay and could only dream of owning it.

Not even 15 minutes later the legend, Grant (gslayton) texts me "Hey.. U are looking for the xx/xx penny xxx? (You gotta keep reading to find out what card it is). Of course I say yes. For the next couple of hours Grant was working with the seller for me and eventually we got a deal done.

That dude went to work for me and he got me a screaming deal. I think he could have easily bought it for himself and made some money but he put a fellow collector before himself.

I've only been back in the hobby for about a year but it's things like this that are my favorite part. We're all just people collecting shiny pieces of cardboard with our favorite basketball players on them but it's more about the friendships we make in the community. I hope I can help someone else land a dream card soon so I can balance out the universe.

Make sure you tell Grant thanks for everything he does in the hobby. What a legend!

Okay now it's card time. I've never actually seen any of these in person and to actually own one of my favorite player and see it in person is absolutely stunning. Anyone who knows me, knows I love when it shines and does this baby shine (Grant played a prank on me telling me it didn't have shine like others he's seen. Ha....ha....ha...).

These cards are pretty tough on condition so the grade is just the icing on the cake. Well, here it is.

I've never seen one of those in person but the photos always look insane.

gslayton's actions are why this hobby is so great.

An amazing card and an amazing story of unselfish kindness.

Wow that card is stunning and so shiny, congrats!

If you feel like you need to balance the universe - Steve Nash Brilliants 24k or pmg Green (I'm not picky)

In my opinion, 98/99 and the 97/98 Championship Preview PMGs are the ones to have. They're so much nicer than the Metal Universe PMGs by a wide margin.

Great story and I agree, the best things we collect in the hobby would be friends, people who we look out for and who look out for us. Congratulations and G, as usual, shows himself to be an asset of the hobby.

Thanks for sharing!

Agree with you there. The 97 championship is my next top card. Thanks everyone else for the kind words. I'm still flying high!

Man. Op that is really nice. The BGS 9 truly is the icing on the top. That set, like the other two PMG sets is TOUGH on condition. Seriously, that is one of the toughest penny's to find. Period. Huge huge congrats. You deserve it.

And yes, Grant is a boss. Seriously. Just a good dude. When he finishes that metal championship set, we are all going to celebrate with him. We need more good dudes like him in the hobby.

As for which of the three PMG sets is best.... I'll just say that I own at least one of each set. I don't have a clue which i like best, and I don't know which one I like least. I like them all. They're each great for different reasons.

Never held one in hand either but that picture is the best I've seen of these PMGs.

Always great to hear of fellow collectors not trying to squeeze every penny out of each other.

Thanks!

Yeah seriously. I'm thinking Vegas?! Haha

I'll gladly take a green pmg. They're all stunning but I love the creative backgrounds of the 97 chips and how you can still see them in the pmgs.

I will get better pictures. This was me taking a quick photo while shaking lol.

He could have easily asked me for more and I would have gladly paid but nope. I'm very grateful

Ha well it looks great! I guess it comes back to the recent photo vs. scans debate.

They're very photogenic cards, the rainbow shine effect seems more subtle than a refractor (in a good way).

Happy to help you brother that was a fun one to make happen.

Great card and great story!

Grant is a helluva dude to come through like that

A gesture like that is a breath of fresh air in this hobby

What a guy!

Wow!

Couldn't have said it better myself. G-Slay (as I like to refer to him ) has tossed a bunch of sweet refractors my way for free to help in my 90s refractor chase. He just loves the chase itself, and loves seeing cards get to the right people. We all know he spends upwards of 20 hours/week hunting down 90s box hoards to bust...probably because he ALWAYS hits something sick, but still, lots of time, money, and dedication to the hobby and he always does it right!

Honestly, now that I type this up I'm starting to feel guilty that I won't bust my Mitch Richmond metal championship PMG out of my PC to help his set chase I think if he actually got EVERY card except the Mitch I would send it his way. Not before that though

Definitely looks better out of that BGS slab. I'm not sure I'd have the guts to crack the case on that card though. I've cracked several cases over the years but never on a card that high-end/rare.
