Default The Official I haven't pulled jack squat out of 2018 Bowman retail Post.

Lots of posts about pulling that one great card out of retail. This is for everyone else. Im up to about 350 dollars in retail and haven't pulled anything worth more than 10 bucks. 2 autographs, both sticker.

What haven't you pulled? I'm convinced that 90% of retail is junk and 5% is topps employees coming on here and making posts. LOL

I have opened 16 blasters and 20 value packs now and have 5 paper autos, 6 green refractors (Best being a Albies ROY) and a gold shimmer refractor.

I understand in no way am I expected to make my money back nor am I expecting to hit an Ohtani auto. However this has been a blood bath.

I haven't pulled anything at all......literally......because I haven't bought any. Promised myself I wouldn't waste money on retail this year. Just buy what I want.

I’m thinking this is the way to go. I found 10 gravity packs at Target on Saturday and got some color, Hoskins Purple /250 and McKay Blue /150. Had the itch to get a lot more. Went hunting yesterday and must have hit 2 x Targets and 6 x Walmarts. Not a single pack of Bowman to be found as every display was cleaned out. I think it’s a sign to stay away. Gonna just buy the Dodger autos I want instead.

I spent a lot on retail last year. Found a bunch of Heritage blasters and hangers at toys r us, Bowman Platinum hobby box at Walmart and random packs and blasters of Topps Chrome and A&G to top me off. Never pulled anything worthy really. To fight the itch I even drove 20 mins to my LCS for some $20 jumbo hobby box loose packs of Topps Chrome, which I did snag an auto and numbered card from. But besides that, the only thing retail did for me was force me to compile near complete sets with nothing else of value out of them. Now that my Judge chase is over, I have nothing in retail i need. Been spending my money just buying already graded cards to fill my needs of keep buying 97 Bowman’s Best Mirror Image Cards to complete the set. Screw retail.

I have sworn off retail and about to swear off the case breaks

With case breaks, one bad random negated to the good draft/trades and doubled my cost to about $16 per player average.

Not a complete bloodbath, since I got decent color and a pile of chrome.

16 fat packs, 14 value packs.

Anthony Rizzo red paper #5/5
Kyle Wright Bowman Breakthrough
Will Smith paper auto

Not exactly setting the world on fire.

I'm usually one to go crazy with retail... just not feeling it this year. Best of luck to those who try!

$500 in, and my best cards are 3x Ohtani base paper, a Kopech Breakthrough card, and a green shimmer auto of JoJo Romero. It’s ugly out there, but that’s the likely outcome when you binge on retail.

Retail is like lighting a couple Benjamins on fire unless there’s a good base card to chase after that routinely sells for $50 +.

Hard to believe you didn't get an Ohtani superfractor and a McKay Red refractor auto with your $40 investment.

Seriously though, Saying retail sucks because you spent $100 and didn't get an Ohtani auto is like saying hobby sucks because you bought 1 box and didn't get an Ohtani auto!

Busting ANY wax is a bad investment. If you’re not doing it for the enjoyment of opening the product, you’re setting yourself up for disappointment. Due to the prices of hobby wax these days, retail is a fun a cheaper alternative. We should all know the odds by now of coming out ahead is slim to none.

4 blasters, 4 fat packs, 6 value packs

4 - ohtani paper base
1 - ohtani green / 99 paper
1 - green shimmer auto Matt Saurer - dirty yankees
4 - 6 other green / refractors.....can't remember who

I thought it was good. If there was more out there I'd be buying it now. I'll have to wait for the 2nd wave to hit shelves this week.

I've been happy with my retail purchases--- good amount of color refractor and papers- green chrome auto a handful of paper autos. The hanger packs with the Camo Parallel 5 Packs have been fun to open and seem to be selling well as lots.

Four Blasters and a bunch of retail packs....no autos, no color. I may try a couple more Blasters and that's about it, except for a break I got into that hasn't filled yet. I know what I signed up for when I bought them, so no surprise here.

We all understand busting wax is risky. Retail usually even moreso. However, the question is: Considering the current market for hobby and jumbos, is retail a viable alternative this year.

For the same money, Retail Bowman is better or equal value to Hobby this year. Change my mind.

I bought 3 value packs at WalMart and my wife (who knows absolutely nothing about cards) said "let me pick one," so I did. Best card out of my 3 was a Rizzo /599. My wife opens the pack she picked and says, "Hey I got an auto, Christian Pack."

Pache green shimmer auto /99

As I'm carefully putting it into a toploader and explaining to her the odds she just beat, she opens the next pack from the same value pack and says "here's a numbered card to 5."

Ozzie Albies red paper RC 3/5

...and we're done with Bowman for the year and my wife has become my designated pack picker/ripper.
