Default Jeff Bannister out as manager of the Texas Rangers

According to Evan Grant (@Evan_P_Grant):
Sources: Rangers to make change at manager; Jeff Banister will be out after 4 seasons

Sad day in my opinion. He basically had a AAA team and outside of a solid season from Mike Minor, had no starting pitching. Hope he gets another chance to manage somewhere in the bigs.

Edit: Banister not Bannister. I promise I know how to type and spellcheck

Clearly something happened, because it makes zero sense to dump Banister with 10 games left.

Don Wakamatsu getting a 10-game stint seems really odd.

Maybe they had a conversation and it was clear he was going to be let go so he just said “let’s get it over with”

This is ridiculous in my opinion. He was given a roster that had no expectation of winning. The players continue playing hard. How does the GM get an extension and the manager gets fired?

I've read he has some communication problems with his players. That might have something to do with it.

I really liked Ron Washington and I really liked Banny. Both are great coaches IMo. Hope I’ll like the next hire too!

Better question: how do so many Rangers fans not understand this situation?

Banister wasn't fired because of the team's on-field performance. He got fired because he lost the clubhouse.

I think we Rangers fans not understanding this comes from a position of this being the first we're hearing about him losing the clubhouse. The public perception was clearly positive for Banister but we weren't privy to the behind the scenes stuff. If all you've heard is the Banny from the radio/tv interviews and the press conferences, you see a likable guy that often overachieved with the teams he was given.

I'm hearing and reading more now on the communication issues and the interests of the players not lining up with the interests of Banister. Once all the details come out I'm sure it will make more and more sense to us Rangers fan who were initially confused by this move.

It was time to make a change. It was either Banister or GM Daniels. Daniels better get the hire right this time or he's done.

Guessing the Rangers tear it down and hire a young stat savvy players' manager a la Cora/Boone/Roberts.

They can have Gabe Kapler. I'll drive him to Arlington if that helps!

He's always reminded me of Affleck's Dad from The Town.

also, because anytime a coach is fired, the GM is going to say "he lost the clubhouse." Now, I have no inside information so that statement may be true. But, if you watch the games, the players did not play like guys who had given up or who didn't respect the manager.
So, had he lost the clubhouse or is that just the go to excuse?

all that said, word is that when some veterans left and others didn't want to lead, it left a leadership void that he didn't find a way to fix.
