Default In case you haven't seen: former BGS employee BGS 10 Black Label scandal

To all my basketball homies,

I know not everyone ventures to other parts of the boards. By now, you are all aware of the insane trimming scandal going on. Well, if you haven't been to the baseball section recently, it has come to light that a former BGS employee has been receiving preferential treatment in his grading, to an absurd and fraudulent level.

If you personally do not receive almost exclusively BGS 10 Pristine Black Label cards when you submit to Beckett, then this is a must read - because this guy does.

Former BGS employee, still friends with the graders, lives in Dallas, and drops off all of his cards in person. And gets mostly BGS 10 Black Labels.

We are reaching new levels of depravity every day in this hobby.

Yeaaaah, I’m about out of this “hobby”, which is a shame since I’ve been collecting since I was 6 years old. People have ruined this for me and all of the other actual collectors out there that aren’t just in this for a quick buck.

It’s pretty crazy how many scammers and shady people there are in the hobby

Not like this. This is starting to be widespread poison. I know the hobby has been through rough times and scams before, but never with this much money on the line.

Yes. It's just always helpful when you can see exactly what the scammers are doing so that you can adjust your hobby decisions accordingly.

Just don’t buy a BGS black label then. It sucks that people do this but it’s the same reason I don’t buy from PWCC, BuyNiceCards, etc. There’s still a lot of good people in here and fun to be had, just have to maneuver accordingly.

The money involved is a different beast though.

I think I'm at the same point. May just try to stick to the one player collection and try and finish a few remaining sets. Otherwise, just really sickened.

It was only a matter of time before the corruption started.

Grading sucks!! Over it. I will not support the Monster it has creative. I will not spend 5 x raw due to an individuals opinion. Now with all the information the forum has unearthed the last 6 months its obvious that its all a big scam.

At The National, BGS, PSA and all the major key players, Panini, Topps, PWCC, need to hold a town hall style “State of the Hobby” to address everything

Best fix to all this is just keep outing the scammers, frauds, and etc, stay away from bgs 10 and black labels and maybe even psa 10's. Keep people aware of the low lives that are ruining it like PWCC, BNC, and so on and DONT buy from them so that they aren't supported.

I never saw the point in spending extra to buy a bgs 10 or black label, if in the past I got lucky in sending something in that would have been the only reason I would have one. I do like PSA 10's but unlikely I would pay a premium for one.

Wow the math behind OPs circumstantial evidence is STRONG. Chances that the submitter just got lucky are somewhere between miniscule and impossible. I hope BGS is looking into this.

Reminds me of when online poker players on a certain site a decade ago noticed that the ROI of a certain group of players were statistically improbable. After an internal investigation it turned out certain former employees after the sale of the site had a cheat code that allowed them to see everyones hole cards, and had taken millions off of unsuspecting players.

I'm surprised everyone's surprised about this stuff. Doesnt take a genius to figure out stuff like this has been going on for years. It happens with everything, stocks, contracts, ect, ect.

I don't think it's so much surprising that it is happening, but the neat thing is being able to actually put names to the people that are doing it. We all know it happens, but when we can catch them in the act, I think it is helpful.
