eBay was likely closed at the time for holiday. I do not believe eBay or VCP is "in" on anything here. It's very likely PWCC or Moser complained to Terapeak to get it swiftly removed.

edit to add - looks like eBay acquired Terapeak.

Especially given the timing, it sure appears eBay is helping shield highly questionable activity! In no way do I believe VCP is "in" on anything because they were directed by Terapeak/eBay to remove bidder information.

Interesting link showing someone who does professional comic book restoration talking about doing card pressing, saying it passed PSA

Her resume appears to indicate "Sotheby’s chief restoration consultant for their historic collectible auctions 1991-1998" included "Baseball card restoration:
Cleaning and pressing of major Topps and Bowman cards from the 40’s, 50’s and 60’’s."

Passing PSA doesn't seem to take much these days.

In comics, pressing isn’t a sin and it’s recommended before grading. The argument is that you are just applying pressure to remove creases caused by other pressures. Trimming a comic, adding pieces, adding colors, binding tears, bleaching, those are considered the restoration effects

Yes, but it also says she did it to baseball cards, where it is not condoned.
Where do I remember seeing this card before?

But alterations are supposed to be divulged in comics.

If it’s graded by cgc it doesn’t say If it’s pressed or not. What’s more cgc is the best presser there is with their CCS in-house company who handles that along with restoration removal (all for various fees). I used them when I graded an Amazing Fantasy 15 brought it from 4.5 to 5.5 in sure.

Passed by PSA according to the professional restorer, Ms. Cicconi.

RIP Vintage card grading. It was fun while it lasted. I feel like quitting.

But yeah color touches, replacement panels, tear sealing, bleaching, and trimming are documented and the label changes from blue to purple with the restoration listed. Just pressing/light cleaning is allowed and not mentioned with the label stating blue is that’s the extent of the work done.

Good catch Bruins1993.

Now does one suspect the other cards around the cert number of the Gehrig to be bad?

If PSA gave a damn or knew what they were doing, they would have never missed that. Look how oversized that card is T/B.

Nice find, Bruins. Why would Ms. Cicconi just release that photo now, on June 6, 2019, if she did this work at the latest in October 2016? Strange timing.

That pressed Gehrig should have never been given a numbered grade. The pattern of ink loss due to a practically foldover crease should have been obvious in the hand of a grader. Folded card stock never retains it's original rigidity due to the pulling of the paper fibers. The fibers don't go back into place.

That's embarrassing that something so obvious got by the PSA "professional" graders. They aren't even utilizing their best tool - their own eyes.

Sigh, PSA is just really useless for doing their number one job - Authenticating. All is good as long the flippers are still making money!!!

Looking for some help on this one:

http://smalltraditions.com/1999_Ultr...-LOT42983.aspx

This card was previously sold twice as a PSA 8, but I can only see it in VCP. Both times on eBay:

12/10/17 by seller SVCards (Can't tell who the buyer is)
7/15/18 by ..... PWCC (Can't tell who the buyer is)

Now it shows back up as a 9 and looks trimmed on the right side. It's too bad because it was something I was very interested in.
