Just curious, how hard are these to get? I'm creating several subs to PSA and BGS, and generally I'm sending the stuff with centering issues (60-40 centering instead of 55-45) to PSA in hopes of 10s, and cards that might have surface issues that prohibit a 10 to BGS in hopes of a 9.5. What about cards that seem flawless? Should I take a shot at BGS to try and get a BGS 10? those seem to hold a premium above PSA 10s, but I assume for good reason.
Let me know if you have any experience or opinions on this! |

Depends on if you’re a former BGS employee or not.

I would never submit counting on getting a BGS 10. 9.5 is gem mint and if the card is near perfect most likely that's what you'll get. My last submission of 178 cards returned 5 bgs 10 pristine no black labels.
My previous submission was about 150 cards yielded 4 bgs 10. My last two submissions have been slightly above the average on 10s. (about 1.6% last I checked) Sent from my Pixel 2 using Tapatalk |

The average Joe won't get any black labels (no pun intended) and if BGS 10 play the lottery before you hope for a 10.

Bgs 9.5 gem is equivalent to PSA 10 gem in theory. Subrades could Still be a factor tho.
I used bgs because of the half piont system. As I said, to much range from PSA 9 to 10. A PSA 9 could be a BGS 8.5, 9, or low 9.5. Possibly even an 8 in some cases Sent from my Pixel 2 using Tapatalk Last edited by Ken735i; 01-01-2020 at 07:17 AM. |

Goal number for me is 9.5 since I submit only after using a loupe and punt pretty ruthlessly unless it's a card I want slabbed no matter what.
Getting a nine is a slight bummer that I'm still good with ... an 8.5 is "what?!" A 9.5 gets a solid response from me when I get them, 10s still feel too rare and are a surprise to me. My only Black slabs when submitting came early on in my regular return to grading -- I was shocked but have not seen any since.

I also personally like the .5 system better and am using BGS for #’d cards or PC items, but for “transactional” pieces like Prizm RCs and Optic Holos I’m using PSA. The sale value is almost always higher for PSA 10 vs BGS 9.5, plus seems easier to get with the 60/40 centering rule vs 55/45. I just have a couple silver Prizms lately where I thought the cards were damn near perfect so I was considering tossing those in with the BGS sub

One thing to know when chasing pristines and black labels is that not every card is made equally. Certain brands/cards will grade much better than other due to how they are manufactured/packaged. Do some research on the BGS pop report to get an idea how many before yours have received a BGS 10 if that's what you're after.

In maybe 500 individual card submissions, I've hit 20 or so Gold 10s and only one Black 10.

Imagine if BGS never made this black or gold version? Probably would be out of business by now.
People say slabbing is a scam, the BGS black is what I think of when I read that statement ;P |
