Default SGC Gold Label 10 vs. BGS Black Label 10

Obviously PSA will never be able to come close to these two Gems. My questions is, which one in your mind carries a higher value and which is easier to obtain? I am interested to here from people who have received one of the other. How many cards did you submit and how many came back Gold or Black label 10's?

bgs black > psa 10 > sgc gold

I tried crossing over sgc gold pristine to psa 10 and did not cross over.

when I sold it through Ebay auction, if I recall, was close to a bgs 9.5 price

this was around when sgc introduced the gold pristine slab so maybe 2 yrs ago give or take

card was a Topps Chrome durant rc fyi

hope this helps

It seems like a lot of recent sales have sgc gold over psa 10. I think that trend will continue to grow as people see how tough sgc grades.

I've noticed the same, as it that should be the case given it's Pristine.

Hoping to see SGC Gold 100 outselling BGS 10 non blacks soon.

If SGC wants to see their "perfect" label outsell a BGS 10 Black, SGC will need to implement the White Label idea. The hobby will go bananas.

I have noticed the gap closing on many 9s and above between BGS/SGC and PSA.

I think that the gap is definitely closing between resale values. For example, I just sold an Austin Meadows 2018 TCU refractor graded SGC gem 10 for only $5 less than what a PSA 10 sells for. While that's only one example, I think it's indicative of a broader picture of the gap closing

SGC has made considerable ground in the past 2 years. More specifically the last 6 months, honestly. I can't speak for other markets, but I have been watching the Luka Doncic Donruss/Optic grading sales and the last Pristine SGC went for $260 before tax and shipping and the last PSA 10 went for $206 with the recent average being between $200-230 or so. There's a small premium on SGC Pristine, but not as much as there will be in the future in my opinion.

I do not agree with the order. SGC gold label is higher than a PSA 10. SGC standards for gold label are 50/50 centering. PSA's isn't. BGS black label is designed only for ex-employee's. haha just kidding on that part.

Have you contacted sgc and told them this? They are pretty easy to get a hold of and take feedback serious. If you have not, you should.

Default SGC Gold Label 10 vs. BGS Black Label 10

Interesting thread. I didn’t want to start another thread for my question.

What is the price comp for an SGC 10 GM? Would it comp to a BGS 9.5?

Thanks!!

I don't know if this helps anyone, but here are some comps using one example that has a large number of each.

FWIW I use BGS,PSA, and SGC. I don't favor one over the other and these numbers are not opinions but actual comps (as recent as there is/rounded up):

Card: Juan Soto 2018 Update RC

BGS 10 Black Label: $2,000.00
BGS 10 Pristine: $330.00
SGC 10 Pristine: $215.00
PSA 10 Gem: $125.00
SGC 10 Gem: $100.00
BGS 9.5 Gem: $100.00

Let it be known, that I've noticed weird splits with higher end cards (Lebron Topps Chrome RC, Trout Update RC, Brady Bowman Chrome RC..etc.) but some would argue that those comps are shilled, which is a different debate for a different day. I thought this Soto was a good card to use for the price comparison though.

Hope this helps. Hope everyone has a nice day!

Thank you. I was thinking the SGC 10 Gem was comparable to the BGS 9.5.

Lets do another card. Zion Prizm 248 Base.

BGS 10 Black Label: $4,700.00
BGS 10 Pristine: $1,799.99
SGC 10 Pristine: $749.99
SGC 10 Gem: $540.00
PSA 10 Gem: $599.99
BGS 9.5 Gem: $285.00

SGC and PSA 10's are getting closer. As hard as SGC grades, I would consider crossing over any SGC 10 to BGS and seeing what happens. It would be a no brainer to send a Gold Label SGC 10 to BGS with a mingrade 10.

I agree. That gap appears to be closing the more and more SGC's are getting bought up.

It's funny that you mention that: In a few weeks, I'll let you know how that works out as I sent a SGC Gold Label 10 to BGS with min. grade of 10.

I bought a gold label Deshaun Watson Prizm last year for around $115 when PSA 10's were $200ish. I was thinking of crossing to PSA as I figured PSA would definitely be higher than SGC, gold label or not and never thought about trying for a BGS 10. What does BGS charge look over a card and if it meets your min grade, slab it?

Looking for rare Jameis Winston rookies (Prizm White Sparkle, Gold Vinyl, etc), 1/1's and jersey #'d stuff.

Where does a BGS 9.75 fall? I'm talking about two 10's and two 9.5's (maybe three 10's and a 9). Over/under PSA 10?

Is it just me or has SGC backslid into just another cheap slab category?

I just sold a SGC 10 Gem Mint (not Gold) 2018 Topps Complete Set Chrome Refractor Ohtani for $225... last PSA 10’s sold for $200-$230. Granted its 1 card and there aren’t any PSA 10’s currently listed on eBay but I got the same or more than the PSA 10 version sold within 1 week of each other.

For the hot commodities I think SGC 10’s will be close or 10% behind PSA 10’s, probably a greater spread for players less in demand.
