Default Blowout has morphed into a cesspool

Title sums it up

Barely any showoff threads or anything of value (outside of exposing trimmers and thief's)

The majority of threads is

Will MJ go up?
Will Zion take over as goat?
Should I sell now?
Will Kobe go up?
Should I grade?
Whats this common card worth?
Should I sell my base card?
Should I invest in this?
Who should I collect?
Got a new mojo dragon breath for PC Im investing in
Check out my new grail of a base card psa 10
Is Tatum good?
Should I invest in a guy who barely made a roster

Do better BO

Yep. That’s basically what I said in another thread. It’s tiresome.

I mean, we have a thread devoted to Donte DiVincenzo.

This would all be solved if Blowout created

Blowout Investment Talk

with the same categories under "Hobby Talk" which is basketball, baseball, soccer, football, hockey, etc.

I thought cesspool before I could read the entire title.

The whole hobby is becoming unlikeable.

It is simple and doesn't cost a dime for Blowout to implement. We get our hobby back and know where to go to talk investments.

Yes please.

Investment thread FTW.

Also, separate the god damned BST thread up a bit so it's not just Prizm and Optic Major Mojos threads clogging it up..

The sheer amout of "new" members hyping all the time is painful..

Let's take it back!!

I completely agree on a revamped structure to the forums but don’t blame the “newbies”. Not everyone knows the unwritten rules of a sports card message board. Imagine getting into a new hobby and having questions. You post said question on the most popular forum and proceed to get blasted for being new. It’s a brand new market with a lot of new entrants. BO needs to step in and do a restructure.

They have investment gurus to go to

I do like the idea of investment section (along with split BST)

So hobbyists and investor dorks can cohabitate

The showoff action, even the low end poverty thread type stuff, has moved to Instagram in a big way. I held out as long as I could but had to finally get an account. Wish some of it would come back. Not a fan of having to scroll through ad after ad of THOTs and wannabe rappers just to see some cards.

Pretty much all high end or modern is now intertwined with investment. The run up in prices is just inescapable when we talk about it.

You can't post sets that you're working or cards that you're still buying because they'll blow up out of your price range. Even if there's no reason it should be hot, some dude will buy stuff up just to try and squeeze you.

Good posts get ignored. Passionate player/set/team collectors might get a handful of replies when they show off since it isn't InVEstMeNt or yung playas. I've written full-fledged articles on here that were pretty informative or fun and gotten pretty meh response.

I don’t have much sympathy. When I first got back into the hobby I had no idea wtf I was looking at... what is Panini and where did everybody else go? I was completely confused. So I spent a lot of time researching and reading. Why should anyone else do all the research for me?

It comes down to pure laziness on the part of new members who want every answer spoon fed to them. Does anyone really not know how to search a forum or check completed listings on eBay? Granted, this isn’t all new members, but it’s too many of them. If I wanted to invest in stocks and went to a stock forum and said, “what should I buy?” I would hope they’d laugh me off the forum. This is a hobby first and foremost, so it’s even more insulting.

This should be titled “Is it time to start talking about blowout forums being a cesspool?”

The box breaks section has basically become a ghost town it feels like. But who can blame the average box breaker? I used to break a ton of wax but at these prices and what you can get for sealed product, it's such a loser's bet. I'm thinking of getting back in to MTG, but even that, there are several releases a year so nothing really has a chance to sit and simmer. Might just start buying vintage Pokemon and MTG cards just to relive the old days.

I love this idea. I do this at a part-time job, while purely collecting T206s and partially collecting some specific LBJ, & Mahomes. Would love to have to separate to browse based on the information I was looking for.

I think the boards reflect what the hobby has turned into. It’s hard to go anywhere online that doesn’t have the same problems. The influx of money into the basketball side has drastically tipped the balance where there are far more investors than collectors. It’s nice to see cards skyrocket in price, but it’s a double edged sword because it pushes others out of the hobby. I think it’s only going to get worse as the balance tips even further to the business side of the hobby.

Agree with OP. I used to really like browsing the different threads every AM with some coffee while I geared up for work, even if I didn't partake in many. Now, i barely come on here and it's no small coincidence. I don't claim to be a 100% hobby purist either because I absolutely grade and flip to fund different things i want to buy in life whether it be hobby or non-hobby related, but the pure laziness of many of the posts, threads and questions just saps my strength! Also, the fact that, just an example, a kobe topps RC that was 10 or $20 for umpteen years is now several thousand dollars, tragedy or not, or a Patrick Ewing RC that nobody cared about for 20 years to this degree just makes everything surreal and I just dont know what happened! (SMH!)

Not sure. I haven't seen the 90's boom collapse yet. Hoping that happens because I love me some 90's...…….
